Is there an explanation anywhere on how the new ship combat works? I understand that the rock-paper-scissors method has been eliminated, so now we have a combat rating per ship/fleet. How is that implemented? Do weapon types even matter anymore? <p class="MsoNor

No, what I meant was my previous custom civs from GC4 were all "greyed out" and could not be used in Supernova. However, if I edited those civs, resaved as a new civ, and then exited and restarted the game, that new version of the custom civ becomes playable. Based on another forum post, I think it has to do with early access disallowing the previous civs to be used. I guess in Supernova, new civs must be created (or re-created from old).

I am unable to start a game in Supernova with custom civs (or default civs) besides the base Terran civ. What is also weird is when I edit a custom civ, and then save it as a copy of the original civ, the civ’s copy become playable upon a restart (but the original custom civ is still unplayable). What is also strange is that neither that custom civ or civ’s copy are available in the GC4 game anymore after saving the civ’s copy, only in Supernova. &n

Since I haven’t seen it mentioned, here’s an easy fix for your list: Manti Cluster – Traits listed as: Warriors, Paranoid However, the Strengths and Weakness page upon entering the game notes that they should have the Unwavering trait. So the default Manti Cluster trait should be fixed.

Thanks for the responses. I would like to say that I'm optimistic that a good combat system emerges, but many GC3 players were left waiting.... I was really hoping there was more transparency about the combat but it sounds like it would be better for me to check in on the game in a few months and see how it's going.

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere. I was curious if someone could explain how ship combat works in the game. I've been a GalCiv player since the first game so understand the basic dynamics. Essentially, I am wondering what role Defense plays for ships. In GC3, I vaguely recall that the Defense acted as a sort of HP role such that in a longer combat, the Attack rolls would eventually wear down the Defense and start taking away from actual ship

The Drath old ship-style is available through one of the DLC packs. There are also a few examples of this race that other players have created up on Steam. So what's left, just the special abilities, right? I think a fairly easy to mod/implement special ability would be privateers. The mechanic is already in the game for Commander upgrades. What if the Drath had the ability to change any ship to a privateer ship? That fits into their sha

I have a question regarding the new commonwealth system. When I create a commonwealth, the conquest victory condition now adds that new "race" as another number (of races) to be defeated in order to achieve conquest victory. If that is not a bug, then why would I ever want to create a commonwealth if I have to just go back and reconquer my old planets? Maybe I'm missing something but as soon as I saw this in-game I stopped so that I could ask...
You forgot to mention in your tutorial that you'll most likely encounter the annoying bug of "just seeing kinetic weapon effects" in the battle screen when using customized racial ships.
When I reported this bug some time ago, the Stardock tech support indicated that it was something with my cpu, drivers, etc. I was convinced that this bug was just happening to me, and since Stardock wouldn't be addressing it, I
On Minor Factions: One thing you might try is to set the game to have zero minor factions, but then put in a few random empires with the AI level configured for cakewalk. That way you get a full-fledged AI but it is purposefully gimped. They are invasion fodder for larger empires.
That is an interesting solution to the minor faction issue. If there was a way to turn off these n
Hi, I've always placed all of my legions on the same tile - or split them between two if there's an extra city - and haven't had any problems at all. Cheers, Jon
Thanks! I had no idea that you could place them all on the same tile. That is very helpful!

I've used the Anvil in every game that I've played. I definitely think that it is an exploit, and I now just buy it to "block" the AI from doing the "blitz" tactic. I personally think the Anvil should be moved to a higher tier in the Merc screen or have a substantially higher cost. I haven't said anything about the issue though because there are several other more higher-priority issues for me regarding bugs, etc.

"Wait" error - I am also getting the "wait" error where the game just hangs with the "wait" button grayed out. This error has occurred on each of my games, shutting down and reloading doesn't help, and it is at the point now where I won't even try to play the game again until it is patched. The game is very enjoyable, and it would be great if I could progress through a full playthrough!
