I fixed this myself. It required an uninstall, reboot then removal of all files related to Fences. I removed the following from the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\Fences Also the folder in program files and this one: %appdata%\Stardock\Fences

I don't seem to be able to click either the settings icon or the close icon on the menu bar of any fence. I want to close a fence but can see no way of doing so without this working. Has anyone else experienced this? I have had a search but found nothing.
