Larry Niven's books, The Mote in God's Eye and The Gripping Hand had a neat alien race concept in the Moties (I guess also seen in Babylon 5's Minbari). A highly caste centric race, with specialized Diplomats, Warriors, Engineers, and Mini-labourers. A rock-like creature race would be interesting too (MOO's Silicoid, or FTL's Rock race) Ship-wise, I'd really like to see an agile ship like the Supox that can reverse. It was my favourite ship to play just

I wasn't totally disappointed with SC3's colony ma
I think a new Star Control should feature multiplayer 1 on 1 battles like the old melee mode of SC2. I also think that they should let you play melee duels over the internet (it'd be easy enough to add). I would be very wary of making it multi-person duels to begin with at least. That means an open universe that your actions mean something but that you are, ultimately adventuring in a single ship that you are building up. From a canon point of view, since it's looking like Activision isn't going to let Paul and Fred participate, we're going to keep the original trilogy in its own canon universe called the Ur-Quan universe
I grew up with Star Control 2. It was the first game my brother and I played on our 386 (We had an Apple II before that). We played super melee for countless hours, and of course the story mode was amazing too. It was a game that likely inspired both of us to become software developers (my brother even works in the games industry). There are so many reboots of classic games these days, and I've been wanting one done for SC2.. But it is scary at the same time. A lot of these games
