Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have the latest NVidia and Intel HD drivers, and reboot quite regularly. In fact it is after a reboot (or connecting an external monitor) that my desktop hangs for a few minutes with the spinning wheel.

Hi, For a month now (after a Start 8 or Fences update maybe), my Windows 8.1 Dell XPS 21 takes several minutes before I can interact with the desktop. The cusrosr displays a spinning wheel and clicking anywhere is unresponsive. The same thing happen (spinning wheel and no interaction with desktop or menu bar for a few minutes) if I plug or unplug my secondary monitor. Uninstalling Fences resolves the issue.
