Great post, Joeball (and others). I fully agree Life can be pretty useful. Healing is hard to come by and + city growth is prob the best bonus out there. I also wouldn't like radical changes to Horrific Wail, as it's an awesome spell. Your suggestion to move the requirements up makes a lot of sense. @Vallu751: yeah, if you have that many death shards :) Too bad converting costs 50 mana. Only some spells profit from it, so it's a hefty investment. And to climb back on my hi

Maybe your suggestion will help, mqpiffle. Personally, my main problem with magic is that non-spellcasters will amass a lot of mana. All they can spend it on are spells like CV or Destiny's Gift. This makes those spells feel cheap and a little cheesy. Players who like to use magic, like me, create spell-casting Sovs, who use their mana in combat. They will never amass 500 mana, let alone 2000, making it impossible to ever cast Curgen's Volcano, even though their Sovere

Yes, Death magic is probably a little more powerful than Life. But that's purely because of a handful of powerful spells: - Blind: cheap and great vs big monsters. You don't start with it, btw - Shadowbolt: kills weaker units outright - Horrific Wail: this spell is overpowered. Kill the caster in that 1 turn delay or die! Note, however, that you need Water Magic too. It could use a mana increase. All the other spells are average at best: I'll take I

The unrest penalty is even higher on higher difficulty. 50% on Expert, probably 60% and 70% on Ridiculous and Insane. Which means you might as well just ignore conquered cities for a while, especially once you start conquering 2 or more in a turn.
It's a sad truth that using skills and abilities present in the game, it's possible to win the game. Perhaps they should fix this?
Hahaha! Yes, Stardock, please fix this! On topic: I never seem to find many Champs, and even my 2 lvl ~14 champs aren't that powerful. 'Wealthy' seems more useful, albeit very boring.

Some good changes. Some...not so much. I don't like the spell changes. As it is, there's already no correlation (maybe a negative one) between a Sov's spellcasting ability and realm spells and amount of mana. The Magic Tech tree doesn't help spellcasters much either. I like to magically blast my way to victory in battles, which means I don't have any mana left to cast Curgen's Vulcano or even Destiny's Gift. 1 Curgen's Volcano = 20 Horrific Wails ! Admi

The Elementals/Demons have to be pretty weak, otherwise the ability would be too powerful. It's one of the few traits (besides +10% race traits and such) that doesn't come with any requirements: you don't have to research anything, build anything or buy anything. The Water and Fire units are completely worthless, but the Grave (earth) and Cyndrum (death) ones can hold their own fairly well. The Crows (air) are excellent scouts and can sometimes win fights with hit and run

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have anything to do with economical power/ number of cities. My power level doesn't go up or down when I conquer r lose a city. It's purely your military power, however the game calculates that.
