I'm not so sure this is a start menu modification, perhaps a windows blinds feature instead. My understanding is Start8 is purely a Start Menu restoration application. I think it would be best to keep it simple and great at its task and nothing more. I do like your idea, but I feel that it should be done in another program and not in Start8. Start8 should be as light-weight as possible. Cheers, :-)

best thing to do is add this to the exclusion list in windows defender. C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start8 I have found that this solves all performance problems between S8 and WD. This may apply to other AV products as well.

When I try and right-click "Computer" on the right side of the menu in a Windows 7 theme menu nothing happens. I ran the BETA upgrade on top of the latest GA release. Thanks,

I can confirm that I have the same issue. I type "cc" and get ccleaner under the heading "programs". I type "inte" and get some items from intel and from internet explorer, but the are all settings related and come under the heading "control panel". Thanks,

I tried very hard to get on board with MS and their new UI, but I eventually just had to use Start8. I started with the Win8 theme for the first few weeks, then just go fed up and moved the Win7 theme. I can honestly say that Start8's Win7 theme has improved and really increased my positive user experience of the Windows 8 operating system. I have been a windows user since it's birth a long time ago and I am sad to see the menu go. However,

This is a power setting in control panel rather than a Start8 setting. Navigate to the below control panel section and the setting is at the top left of the power options. Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options > Require a password on wakeup Cheers, PS. Please think about the security implications of changing this setting. :-)

Thanks Neil, this was very annoying and your tip really helped me out. To be more accurate, this should be the only entry that is required to be changed: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\ MouseCornerClipLength Set the value to 0 (from 6). Reboot. There are other entries, but editing them should not be required. </d

help. I appear to be stuck in a loop. I was searching in settings and typed windows and hit enter. It took me to the windows update part of the pc settings screen, rather than the control panel applet. I dragged it down to close it and now I click the flag and the screen just flashed and nothing happens. Is there a way around this or do I have to reboot? Thanks,

Simple work around for the built-in windows defender: - Open Windows Defender. - Click 'Settings' TAB (top right). - Click 'Exluded Files and Locations' on the left. - Click 'Browse' on the right. - Navigate to this path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start8 (actually selecting the Start8 folder). - Click OK and then click the 'Add' button which is below the 'Browse' button you clicked ear

Also, I am unable to "unpin" some programs like Windows 8 Manager by Yamicsoft. Some icons I have pinned like outlook 2013 are not displaying in the APPS on the left, but it did in the start screen. Thanks

strange, I have the same problem. I cant drag and drop using right-click and I cant see the option for the "show on desktop". I am using 1.03 and the only EXE in the install directory that show anything close to 1.0.3 is the Start8Config.exe file which is 1.0.3.2. All the other EXE files are 1.0.1.0 and 1.0.0.0. Some of the DLL files are 1.0.0.2 and 1.0.3.3. I think I have the latest version. Thanks

May I request that a clear version / build is used for every release? I think it is just good practise that every new release or update be accounted for with an appropriate build number. This also helps the customer experience with being able to actually see what they have. Thanks,
