This happened to me too. I had a pretty cool windows looking button on my Window 8 machine. After upgrading to Windows 8.1 the Icon changed. And I couldn't get it back. Very uncool guys. Stephen
Okay, I'm having the same problem now. I installed a fresh Windows 8.1 system last week. It was working just fine until today. When I rebooted my machine the Start8 button disappeared. However, it is still running. If I go to the metro screen and type "Start8" I can get the configuration tool to launch. When I uninstalled Start8 the windows start button re-appears.
