I'm having very similar issues here. But I am using Fences on Steam right now. Probably switching to Object Desktop soon though.

Is it possible to put line breaks in the custom description for your race? Enter, Shift-Enter, Ctrl-Enter and Alt-Enter don't seem to do it :p

Same here, lots of crashes (starting today) related to moving ships... =( I can confirm it happens on any save I start, I can't play the game at all now. In the campaign I can't even get past turn 1.

You need to put a constructor ship inside to build any upgrades. As for the research, there used to be a hot-key to force an end to the turn (shift-click or similar on the turn button).
