However they do give some bonuses to Startbases as well. All the modules that say "+1 to all three attack" or "+1 to all three defense" apply to starbases in the radius. The individual modules like "Beam Assist +1" only apply to ships. VERY useful for protecting your main Economy and Resource starbases!!! Sometimes it makes all the difference.

I used to leave all my planet names the defaults. However, after playing a few games quickly in the same weekend (especially if i abort one due to fatal mistakes) I get confused. I see: "Paulos III is no longer building anything" And I say to myself: "Oh yea, thats what I was building up with factories to crush the paulos!" But the truth is: "oh wait, That was last game. All I have on that planet is a single factory" Now I name my planets bas

I've noticed...and it might be co-incidence....that my bonus tiles are releated to my starting position. If i'm way off in a corner while the rest of the civs are near the center of the map, i tend to have more bonus tiles.

I almost never attack anyone. Usually my game goes like this: I research all kinds of social/research/trade/moral techs. I trade tech with minor races so that I have SOME weapons when I get attacked. I pay off most races that try to get money from me. When it seems like i'm not going to be able to hold off an AI, i try to pay off another race to attack them. then i put my sliders to 100% social, until most of my building proj

I always play a custom race. Is there any reason not to? I mean, can't you basically create any one of the races using custom?

I dont know about #1. I've only encountered Dread Lords a couple times and it was late in the game. I killed them quickly. for #2, i just found this out myself. You got a "bad" map both times. After you setup the game, look at the mini-map for where the other civs are. If you dont like the setup, press CTRL+N to generate a new map!

I generally hold onto treaties until (will try to type this correctly) later on in the early-part-of-the-game. Once I identify a race whom i think i will need good relations with, whether its cause I will want them as an ally, or I fear going to war with them....i use my treaties with them to obtain techs I need.

There's something a little different I'd like to contribute to this thread. There's a certain alure to games when you "don't know". Many a MMOG have been ruined by a year+ of hype and build up. Developers will talk about the races and abilities of a given race....and when the players play the game, they get dissappointed when its not exactly what they talked about on the forums....or if there's bugs that prevent exact functionality. Perhaps in the next GalCiv game (or other s

Couple of suggestions, some based on other ideas: Twilight of the Gods For some mysterious reason, the universe appears to be dying. Each turn a random planet (populated or not) is removed from the game (or explodes into an asteroid field). Should make things a little more interesting. AWESOME idea man. You may want to increase the time between the planets blowing up, or maybe make it a random star that g

-------------- The Neutral Zone An underground diplomatic community surfaces and patrols the borders of all civilizations. They have extremely powerful ships that will attack any fleet crossing civilization borders. You might be able to defeat them and cross, but you will surely take damage. The only way to get around this is to get up to "friendly" relations with this diplomatic "race" Not sure if the game mechanics could support this type of thi

In this thread , a couple of us were talking about anomolies. It would be cool if there were different "levels" of anomolies. The sesnsor techs could be expanded (and made more expensive?) that allow for the ability to detect and survey different levels of anomolies. So a level 2 sensor lets you SEE level 2 anomolies, and a level 2 surveyor (available after lelve 2 sensors) would let you survey a level 2 anomoly. <br

n. However....It should require a different type of survey module...something you have to research This too, but not "second wave" better to research new detectors that allows you to detect "second level" of anomalies. Yea I was thinking that same thing. But I think that would just plain make a good addition to the game in general (without a mega event). It always seems like the hunt for anaomolies is over too quick

Speed cut in half for all engines. - Beam weapons are reduced in strength by 1/2. - Trade routes are harder to maintain - values cut in half. - Minimap no longer will show other empires ships. - Asteriod mines production halved due to dec

Here's a few ideas. Some of them are not completely formed into a solid event, but are ideas that might be partially used. -------------- The Linux fanboy event Idealists steal technologies from each race and share them with all other races for free. -------------- The Neutral Zone An underground diplomatic community surfaces and patrols the borders of all civilizations. I cant say much about the ethics. Usually when I get to that point in the game, i'm more concerned with an End-Game. However I read some stuff recently about rushing that tree (especially if going neutral for the research and shipping improvements), so I might experiement soon. Personally I have not found power plants to be a very good buy. I dont usually make "mega-super-production-planets" like some people do. So when I look at the % bonus I get for a power plant, it's usually bet

Yeah, if thats the way people want to play thats fine, but I won't play the metaverse for that reason. I play metaverse EVERY time I play. (dont post them all though heh) I dont care about points or ranking, however collecting the medals is fun and it's a good reference to see the progress of my play style.

I tend to doubt that there is any intelligent life that exists in a manner we can commuinicate with. SciFi is great cause it gives us all kinds of humaniod aliens to think about. I find it more likely that the life that is out there is WAY different than us. For example non-carbon-based life. Or life without a phsyical body as we understand it.

Hi! Maybe I don't understand, but if I have a plaent with 10,000 RP's, i would have a technological victory in no time. They play for score, not just for victory. BR, Iztok Ohhhhhh ok. i guess that makes sense then. Not sure I'd ever have interest in possibly giving up a game to get points. Or worse....drag out a game I know i'm going to win anyway. To me, thats kinda like playing S
