I found a UNC link to a PC that has the printer shared that was within the fence. I removed it and placed it in its own fence and it crashed explorer after a reboot. So I think that is the problem. The way I understand fences I wouldn't think that a shortcut to a PC over the network would cause fences to crash explorer, but that's for you to decide if you want to look at this further.
Yesterday I removed the old fence. Remade it and gave it a new name and location. Its still doing it. I think now it might be something within the fence causing it to force explorer to crash. Have you had any issues with an item within the fence to cause a crash?
Their solution as with most IT people would be to remove it. Never had this issue in Windows 7, it really sucks.
That's, why I have Process Monitor to try and help figure that out... Can you recommend what to be looking for?? Because it's just 1 of 7 fences that continues to fail? I was finally able to make a local user account and log into it. I made a backup of my fences and loaded it into the new account. Both the new fence prior to replacing it with my backup account worked fine and same with the backup. It seems to be isolated to my account and just one of seven fences. What I still don't understand is why is it just one fence. Even when I replace the problem fence with a new one, the problem comes back after rebooting?
Regular Fence - I should point out that the option for Roll-up is enabled. When I turn it off it causes explorer to crash sometimes until Windows disables fences completely. I have to reboot to reenable it or in some cases, I have had to reinstall fences.
I turned off the AV for 15 minutes hovered over the "Programs" fence and explorer crashed again.
Yes, I can suspend the AV for 15 minutes or up to 2 hours. What is your test?
I confirmed with our IT manager that we do not use either of those programs. The AV we use is Norton AV "Symantec Endpoint protection" small business Edition.
I did try it, but because I am on a network at my company I am unable to log into the new account because it is not on the domain Any suggestions on getting around that?
I have been trying to track " fences.exe " and " explorer.exe " after I restart the PC using procmon, but I don't know what I am looking for. I also have been tracking " RegSetValue " in case there was a registry change. One thing I have noticed is that when it crashes everything locks up or at least I cannot access Procmon or anything else, until after I restart explorer through the task manager. <p style="fon
Basj, I hope you realize it only crashes the explorer when I go over the "Programs" fence. Everything else in the fences works completely fine. At some point, I removed that fence and made a new one and called it "Programs". Worked fine for a couple reboots but now it crashes every time I go over the top of it to expand it even after a hard or soft reboot. I have Promon on my PC, would there be a way I could track something specific to help determine what might be causing this

Thanks for your reply... once I disable Fences my recycle bin was there. Good to know I can still get to it, but sucks that I have to turn it off to see it, outside of using Windows Explorer to browse to it. Hopefully support will have a better solution. Thanks! Scott
I have a laptop that when on the docking station it has Dual monitors setup, but at the time this started I was working on my laptop (not docked) and I am not sure what I did or even why it happened, but all my fences where reset and removed. All the Icons that were in those fences were gone. I docked the Laptop and sure enough the icons where on the other screen. I went ahead and remade all new fences, and I thought all was fine... Turns out when that happene
