Which operating system are you using? I know in windows 7 if you have a password set, then the user account picture is much larger. The picture is smaller if you do not have a password set. Also, there's the option of hacking the logon files. Here's an example: LINK

I recommend getting rid of the favicons completely. I don't like the way they clutter the toolbar. Then, if you add flexible space on both ends of the toolbar, it will center the bookmarks and it will look even cleaner. Install this add-on if you want to try it out. LINK
