why does a newer version ruin prior mods & where can I download mods for the most resent version ? in Sins of a Solar Empire Stardock Forums

Ok I am really sick and tired of updating to the most current verwsion and not being able to use any mods! Why can't these updates be compatible with previous mods? Is there some place to download mods that will work with the most current version, and if so where is it ? I miss my real capital ships mod :(
