Random factors are the spice of life. Poker wouldn't be nearly as exciting, and most sports are played outside where a change of winds can be deciding factor. Good players anticipate and plan for randomness - removing it for "competitive reasons" is dumbing down a game.
You can't plan for randomness. I'm guessing you've never played Smash Bros Brawl and lost a match to tripping. (Serious players have it

This game is really complicated. SupCom was easy. Perhaps its just the lack of a campaign that is preventing me from getting a grasp on things, but I'm having a really hard time wrapping my head around Sins. Back in SupCom, the best, surefire way to figure out what you're supposed to be doing was to watch some high level replays. It was fairly easy to find them too, as GPG had some replay filters you could use and GameReplays.org had a great section with good pe

I guess that's why I suck with him then. Being a General, I try to use him as, you know, a General. I focus on getting minions and such. Guess we need to play everyone like an Assassin in this beta. There's still time for them to fix it... Even so, I have noticed some of the abilities and have a few comments. Bat Swarm: Overpowered. It can wipe out a group of creeps, is almost instant for chasing people down or escaping, and has a very large

I think they could all get something. They don't at the moment, but I think they all should. TB: Fire could just be a damage explosion, ice could be an area slow. Rook: He falls on you and crushes you. Smaller area than TB's fire death, but does more damage. UB: Giant acidic explosion. Perhaps give a plauge-like effect instead of doing direct damage? Regulus: Give a slowly explanding LoS as he rises above the battlefiel

This is different from commanding your troops like an RTS. The creeps are still, for the most part, uncontrollable critters that run around and fight for you. They still act as an endless stalemate that waits to be broken by the Demigods. This isn't a full RTS style control scheme, but some amount of control would be most welcome. I like the idea of preset waypoints that you can change between. I don't like the idea of them being tied to a Citadel upgrade.&nbsp

The problem I have with DotA isn't the elitist environment but the awful user friendliness. As a general rule, those people are elitist for a reason and I don't really have a problem with that. What I don't like is that I feel like I have to go to school to figure out how to play the game. Coming from a fan of the notoriously complicated X Universe series, that's saying something.

I think coordinating the upgrades might mark the difference between a random, casual team and a slightly organized, clan team. Not even counting skill, I think having basic coordination will help the team a lot. Personally, I think that is a good thing. If people don't upgrade their Citadel in favor of personal upgrades (the game should be balanced so that) they are only hurting themselves.

In Beta 1 B/C, the games always seemed to go to whoever got the most damage multipliers first. Just for fun, I would play UB and wait until the late game and charge in and take out the Citadel in no more than three hits. Obviously, this is a bit too powerful. In Beta 2, they seem to have gone the other direction. Now its too difficult to get victory. I just played a game that lasted about one hour and fifteen minutes. About 30-45 minutes of that was after

I think Prison is supposed to be like that. Every other map is full of lanes, walls, and barriers. Prison is just a big open space to brawl. I think this was their intention and they did it very well. Its a "different" map, so not everyone will like it. Personally, I think they did an excellent job for what they intended. There are three maps, play a different one. I like variety.

I think the primary purpose of scouting is to keep tabs on the enemy locations. You can know if someone is coming up to spoil your fun before they get in normal visual range, you can know if that bit of fog between you and the health crystal has a Demigod hidden in it, you can know to avoid people if you choose to, or you can know where to find people to kill them if that's what you character is good at. You can counterattack before the enemy attack even begins if you see them com
I am sorry random guy but your comments about "festering feeling of animousity tearing the team apart from the inside" just makes me smile. I don't know having a gold mine that just constantly provides you with gold seems a little dull to me.
You still get gold from being around things that die. Going after enemies will increase your income by a very large amount. You make it sound like the only so

There are already the Observer Wards you can place around the map to give you some extra LoS. Regulus has that tracking device and Oculus is supposed to be able to send his eyes off to places which sounds like a scouting feature. One of the original concept Demigods (presuming they are the most likely candidates for downloadable content) had a hawk purched on her shoulder, which just screams out the existance of some kind of intel ability. Plus, Generals should be able to se

A team based game should promote team based gameplay. Last hitting is counterproductive to team based gameplay because it introduces competition within the team. The true goal of pushing back the enemy falls to the wayside of personal selfishness where you just need to get all the last kills. People don't work together as well because they are more concerned with stealing kills than pushing back the enemy. Then you have teammates getting mad at each other because they'

I just stumbled across this bug. If you die while looking at a shop, you cannot close the shop window. The only way to shut it is to select another shop after you respawn by clicking through the gaps on the sides of the shop screen. This replaces the broken shop window with one that can be closed. This can be recreated. Just die while looking at a shop window and then try to close the shop window. I'm not sure exactly when the bug kicks in, but I think it

Heh, sorry about the long posts. I tend to go on, and on, and on, and on... Anyway, I think everyone gets the idea I'm trying to convey at this point. Ke5trel summed it up pretty well in an awsome post. I lol'ed.
You went way to far back in time i was talking about the last 10-15 yrs. I come from a heavy fps/rts background and the only thing that has happened with those games is it reduced the skill gap. Cs to css , the skill gap is so small its barely noticable. In Cs there was actual recoil, samller targets, you had to walk because u could shoot through walls so if some1 heard u you were in serious trouuble. Then for some reason when steam d

Its happened twice now. The first time was right at the end of my first Beta 1-A game, and the second was earlier today. Both times were with the UB, iirc. Basically, I gain a level and pick an ability. The "level up" button keeps flashing however, and I get to pick another. I can keep doing this until I have selected every possible power up, but none of them are actually applied to my Demigod. I do not know how to recreate the glitch.

Lol. Recipes are not complicated because the stat boosts make no sense or because nobody can figure out how to use them in battle. That has absolutely nothing to do with it. Rofl. And wtf do shooters have to do with this? If I lose at a shooter, its because the other guy is a better shot. Its not because they knew where to get the sniper before me, its because they are good enough to whip around and no-scope in a split second. I don't even understan

A valid argument, but not true. Firstly, they weren't pros. They simply knew the game better than a total newbie. The best person there professed to lose a lot on open community DotA games. Second, I can show you why recipies had a large play in it. Sometimes, when an experienced player would die, they would run across the room to one of the newbies and buy a ton of stuff for them. They helped me once and I got bunch of items, a handful of recipies, a ton
