We've been tantalized with a Summer beta. Can we expect something soon, or is late summer looking like a better estimate. Yes, I understand that the beta release date will primarily be decided by the developers not the publishers and as such, Stardock may not have any more information that we the everyman, but can someone throw us a bone?
Actually, in its current state, the game has a chess theme to it. Simple board with opposing sides, equivalent pawns and other pieces, equal goals (stronghold).
My guess is the screen shots are based on the early build of the game. The maps are flat to see everything, and get a developer's perspective on how everything will interact. I agree with the OP though and Sol_Invictus. Once the gameplay solidifies, the maps need more variety other than geometric flat shaps and should contribute to the experience.
