I'm a Civ4 fanatic, as well as an old MOO2 fanatic, and heard its a great game to get into if you're into those games. Look forward to reading your input. What are you waiting for? You should be installing GalCiv II instead of posting here. P.S. - not interested in playing the demo. Why?
lol. Well, I was waiting for some input :P As for the demos bit, unless it's a first person shooter, I find that the demo almost never does a game justice - especially a strategy g

Yes, I figured a lot of people in this forum were GalCiv players. Thanks for the tips and the link to the review, Feud. I hope to go pick up GalCiv II shortly.
Hello everyone. I've done some reading on various sites, and after all that, I thought it best to come to the Sins forums, rather than any forum dedicated to Galciv players to get a perhaps more realistic opinion on whether or not it is worth it to get Galciv II. I guess I'm looking for a list of ups and down and opinions on Galciv II. I've read there is no multiplayer, and I've seen what I think to be three separate expansion packs for the game. Are they worth it? Do they add anything wo
IMO, norton and mcafee are disastrous. I currently dont use anivirus software, but when I do, it's AVG. I have little to no experience with the other free products, so i cant vouch for them. AVG has always done a perfect job for me. The prob with norton and mcafee is they claim to be an all-in-one solution usually, and they have all these bells and whistles to alert you of adware, spyware, viruses, etc, but I find they have so many working parts, one or more usually fails. They also t
My first gaming experience was with a VIC-20, which for those of you who don't know, is a sister-computer to the Commodore-64. I played such games as Jupiter Lander, Pacman, the text-based adventures like Voodoo Castle and Adventure Island as well as games like Serpentine Radar Rat Race. Jupiter Lander Serpentine [img]http://wwwhome.cs.utwente.nl/~schooten/software/grabs/serpenti.gif[/
Very pointless rant. Uninformed, untrue and especially pointless seeing as the post was made after the beta patch was released. This kind of complaint should have come out before the patch was released, and furthermore, the user should have waited longer to post a complaint - the patch came out only a few days after mid july. Idiot.
Seriously, this game has seen some great dedication to support. If you really need to complain with a gaggle of other complainers, head over to the
I also had a crash with the beta patch, but under slightly different circumstances. I had just got passed the opening movies and right as it went to the main menu, it crashed to the desktop. I havent been able to reproduce it.
As the_Monk stated, in another thread he posted he was able to host a game regardless of the message ... give it a try! I think the "hosting test" is to check your hosting capabilities without alloy, as to see if you need it. I'd ignore it and go ahead.
I think you're right, but this should be no surprise as I don't see those forms of gov't going away any time soon. They've been around for ages and will probably continue to be IMO. Good catch.
Thanks for the answers :)
Half of this thread is populated by DT members.
What's a DT member? Excuse the lame question, but I dont play Sins that often at the moment - am waiting for the the 1.1 release. Thanks.
I'm not sure why you would want Civ Revolution on your pc, no offence. It's a watered down version of an amazing game. I think people who buy it for their console buy it because theyre missing out on Civ, or simply don't know about it. I think most(if not all) hardcore Civ players wouldnt give it more than 5 minutes. Civ 4 is simply too complete.
I mainly use Firefox, and occasionally use Opera for a change.
Ya, there's definitely no comparison when it comes to the optimization between BF2 and HL2. I can run BF2 almost entirely with full details on 1280x800 or 960 i think? on 3850 AGP but still, crazy aiming problems(that somehow the hardcore BF2'ers don't understand how bad it is compared to other games) and the crazy slowdown upon first load. HL2 is definitely a smoother play. I can play CS:S @ 1680x1050 with full details and AA @ 2 and AF @ 2. What a difference. So I guess 2142 isn't wor
A lot of slow downs arent even graphical really. Sometimes it's physics, AI or poor coding. I find Pirates annoying. Good idea, but maybe with some different\additional implementation. As GoJoe2400 said, it would probably be better with secret bids. I also think it would be better if Pirates acted more like Barbarians in Civ4 - can take control of your cities(planets), and have multiple bases. I think of having an endless supply of pirates, they should be conquerable, and mid-game or so you should see them taper off or basically get wiped out.
A bit off topic but, I'd like to see what Stardock could do with a sports game like hockey that EA has managed to mess up for the pc for the last five years or so.
i have a mid range pc as well as an xbox 360, and it has to be said the xbox is so much simpler, i can get graphics on my xbox that are as good as or sometimes better than my computer with minimal fuss, and unlike my pc i dont get annoying frame rate issues, and as i said earlier i get better graphics on my xbox than i ever could on my pc (gears of war) for a fraction of the price. the only thing tat keeps me interested in the pc is games like sins and gal civ that cant be done on the con
I agree. I play games from my childhood still(atari, nes, vic-20) all the way to the newest games as long as they play well. I'm impressed by cool graphics, but if my computer can't run the game, then it's no good. A lot of slow downs arent even graphical really. Sometimes it's physics, AI or poor coding. That's when it pisses me off - when a game doesnt even look as good as another one or it's not as sophisticated but there are major slowdowns.
Thanks a lot Retro - much appreciated :)
Thanks for the answers guys. I do have a few more questions. When I explore a planet, I sometimes find things, but they're not artifacts, and I can't seem to find them anywhere in the interface. Any idea what they are? and ... How is it that you can pay a much bigger bounty than your opponent, but the pirates will still come after you even though the sword is next to your opponent's name and they're listed as the wanted faction? Thanks for any help ...
Hey all, I'm new and just a bit confused and was wondering - I'll play a two player game. In that game, will be my enemy, pirates, and then theres always like a 3rd faction that seems to be one of the races(TEC I think?), but theyre not my enemy, and not pirates .. who are they and what are they doing in a 2-player game? The manual is thin, and there's barely any story to go with this game, so I was just wondering. Any help is appreciated.
Hello everyone. I recently installed MyColors and ObjectDock. After running both programs I realized Sins of a Solar Empire no longer runs. I unloaded and disabled ObjectDock and have left MyColors running. Is there a reason for this? Could Windowblinds be stopping Sins from running? And this is strange considering theyre both from the same company. Any answers would be much appreciated, thank you.
Great, thanks for the very descript answer psugar.
Thanks psugar. I had to reinstall my drivers to get the quad sound working for Sins. What is the difference between using hardware or software in the config file? I didnt notice a sound or performance change.
