well, with new unit types entering the fray, the corvettes... the prevailing theory is that they will somehow help the late-game massed bomber tactic. On the other hand, I dont see why flak don't just get a power that amplifies their anti-bomber power while reducing all other effectiveness (switching targeting modes). I don't think any flaks have powers. Just make it a researched higher-tier power so that it's not around the early game, and you can successfully counter <em

SINES lore? What is that? The history of why the side opposite the angle is totally over the hypotenuse? Sounds like some teenage dating drama.
Well, I think the key here is to seperate how the Advent think their powers work and how they 'actually' work. Start with the practical way, and then layer on some relgiousness. Seeing as how they have a bunch of neurochemicals in their brain, it's easy to make a comparison to someone on drugs who claims they can taste colors or something. Now, their powers are real, but what sensations are they experiencing? Practicality-wise, you have only a few things t
Maybe you could also use the advent SB's culture generation in addition to enduring devotion? Im just thinking that if the culture structures are easy, a sb is hard. however, the cost might be too great. too bad you can't trade your free capital ship for a free starbase. that would help.
I'm going to assume this thread is still about ideas (I havent read any of it). I realize that this is a significant departure from the current mine system. I'm okay with that. Well, here's my idea (please read through everything and let me know if something wasn't clear): I decide to create a minefield at my planet, and it creates a giant sphere of mines around the planet. The giant sphere with mines floating about is purely visual, no real co
Well, medicine is a bad example. It's hard to do good science in medicine, and it often doesn't work right. The reason there has been such strong opposition in the medical fields to 'home remedies' is because they've been trying to push medicine into a scientific light. Before the scientific approach in medicine, people believed all kinds of crazy thing, and a huge database of nonsense was developed. Seperating fact from fiction is difficult when theres so much 'knowle

Both those examples serve to prove my point. Just saying that ESP is real or that flash heating steel makes it stronger is fantasy. The experiments, the evidence is what makes it real/imaginary. The ESP one especially; it provides evidence of a certain statistical effect. That doesnt make ESP fact. It does make a stronger case for ESP now, but there are many more tests to go before that can be said. But what I'm getting at is the guy who asks "has anyone
I'm sorry but I think you are wrong. Philosophy should have no part in science. Now, when teaching someone the things that science has found, the philosophical insights gained through science are often the best method. People want to know why the ball moved, not the series of measurements that proved how it moved. And that's understandable. Nature is strange, the experiments are abstract, and the math can be difficult; but if I tell you the ball behaves this
My meaning: I'm not sure you can program the repair rate to scale with the amount of shields drained, but seeing as how you said things can stack, I'm sure the repair rate could be a separate buff, and every 25 pts, a new buff is applied.
Think about it--two weeks ago if you had posted, "I believe neutrinos may routinely travel in space faster than light" you would have been laughed at.
They would have been right to laugh. Science is about evidence; without it, everything is just a fantasy. And that's dangerous because as more people believe the fantasy, it takes on religous elements. btw, I did some calculations for my neutrino+quantum tunneling idea: if I'm right, 1.1% of the distance is being 'skipped' via quantum tunneling, which is low enough that I think it could have escaped notice until now (though I can't be sure). It might just be late, but I can't think of a reason why the chance for the neutrino to tunnel wouldn't also be about 1.1%. When it doesnt, there is a single possibily. There is no both. It is one or the other at any point in time. I still dont get the whole "We didn't know Z before, but now we know Z. Therefore, J could/could not be true." thing.
Can 'stacks' even be programmed? I know of nothing in the game that stacks (to be fair, I don't know if the next sentence can be programmed either). And I was kinda thinking that the heal is proportional to the amount of shields stolen. That's a pretty big range you have there, isn't it (I guess the current range is 5000, so I could be wrong)? And that kinda makes me think a bit too... I mean, you could take the current Domina heal, and increase the range to the po
2-3 weeks is not enough time to beta test. I would buy a release date 2-3 weeks after beta concludes. And don't forget, we've barely seen anything on this game yet. If they were planning on a november beta, there would be enough stuff finalized at this point that there would be screens and information. Besides... November/December doesnt work for me. I have Arkham City for November and The Old Repbulic in December. :)

...the thing with the electron is because it's a fallacy to say it is in one place unless you make a measurement (at which point, there is not an infinite number of positions. There is exactly 1). As for the multiverse bit, the vibe I'm getting from you reminds me of the 'one electron theory'. The idea with this theory is that there is only 1 electron in the whole universe, but it is sort of a 'time traveler'. That is why there appears to be more than 1.
It's already been said that rebellion will change the diplomatic victory option. How much and how, we do not yet know. And hopefully, if it's a good implementation, it will be back-ported to diplomacy.

I disagree. I think the early game is all about the number of ships you can get out, and not so much which ship. The only thing restricting that is your economy, which is Advent's mortal enemy. Fix that without carrying it over into the late game, and I think everything will be just fine (can always debate phase missiles, but lets not dwell on that atm). However, making a mod to try out your idea should be fairly straight forward and you can see how it goes and w
Well, if they are, it throws off alot of stuff. For tachyons, the speed of light is a lower bound and there would be some possibility of negative mass there.... but I highly doubt that. There are so many neutrinos bouncing around the universe do to the frequency of nuclear reactions and neutrino's low interaction rate that we would see a much different expansion rate of the universe if they had a negative mass. It would not be uniform, but would have a faster expansion&n
Oops, I killed the thread? Or has everyone been reading Des Connor's posts over the past 2 days? [e digicons]*_*[/e]
If advent got some kind of economic boost that helped them out in the early game, but disappeared into the middle game, I think this problem would solve itself, though I am open to hearing all ideas. Disciples are cheap and effective. Given more cash, you can field more and invest in the research to field the other units.

Why not an offensive power that heals? Stealing from a completely different genre: Force Drain- Drains the force power from an enemy and uses it to replenish health. So... how to work this into a Domina power? Righteous name here : Rips the shields from targetted enemy ship. Nearby ships are enfused with the stolen power to assist in repairs. For every x points of shields drained, ships within the area are in-combat repair rate +y. Lasts z seconds
