Frankly i can't understand the opposition to Impulse/Gamestop...the service and the range of games is way better than steam...it's plain ridiculous to be opposed to it because of Gamestop's history. ... the range of games is better on Impulse then Steam? Have you actually bothered to look at Steam's ca
Thanks. It is, however, against my religion to purchase localized versions of games. I will not purchase a Germanized version of anything, I do not wish to spend my afterlife in hell.
I don't have the german edition of Distant Worlds, but, having both the english and german edition of Armada 2526, i can tell you that it's a very good translation (i was part of the beta-testing for Supernova and made corrections to
I just followed the link to the Distant Worlds site in the OP, and was surprised to see no mention of an expansion. The price was listed as 31.99 EUROS for the digital download only version of what appears to be the vanilla game with no expansion. (I live in Germany so I will need a digital DL, not having anything physical shipped here.) That seems like a steep price, is it available on Impulse or something for less, with expansion, or is it st
Your netbook is probably running 1024x600 as most netbooks do. GalCiv1 was fixed at 1024x768 resolution, so you'll probably need to set your desktop to that to get it to run (which means panning to see the whole screen). Unfortunately since GC1 didn't have a scalable UI, you can't force it to run lower and just live with a few overlaps as you can with GC2.
Aargh....too bad. Thanks anyway.
Excellent. I can re-buy Sins on Steam and get rid of Gamestop completely. Then again if Stardock Central is coming back I don't mind using that and Sins we bought on Impulse would be available in SDC, correct?
Uh? you prefer steam over gamestop/impulse?
Just going to throw this out. I heard negative reviews about both games when they came out (I know, they both got better - think monty python - "i got betta"). As a result, I still haven't purchased. I'm thinking don't bother and wait for sins rebellion. It's due out soon enough. Sounds like a good call if you love sins already. Anyway, that said, your choice, but I still think passing on them both is the

As for the gameplay, when it don't crash, strategic map level is not so

Both games are great (both need their addons). Armada 2526 with Supernova is a classic 4x (turn-based) in the line with MOO 1 & 2. It's my favorite. The basic game wasn't very sexy and many have kept that in their head but the game has made a huge progression... Distant Worlds with the forthcoming second addon is the deepest 4x game in the market...it's just superb. The game is real-time so needs more concentration. I have both and recommend both.

Hello there, I would like to play GalCiv I on a netbook but can't seem to make it work so far (Acer One with Windows 7 basic) and couldn't find any tips on the net nor in the forum. It's GalCiv Gold and i already made a shortcut to the Altarian Prophecy exe as the loaders seems to have problems. Any hints? Thanks
Quoting Anguille, reply 39 I guess you're going to have a deal with Kalypso again for Europe Kalypso REALLY needs to release the patches that we get here in the states for Sins. Thousands of European Sins gamers who buy through Kalypso don't have access to the latest patches. This likely can SEVERELY hurt the online multiplayer community.
I am not sure
Quoting Anguille, reply 29 What is it you don't like from Impulse? Its owned by Gamestop now.
I know but frankly, i don't see the problem as long as they don't change too much to the Impulse system. I would also have prefered to see Stardock keep control over Impulse but i haven't seen much change since then yet. It is still much better than Steam or the EA crap.<
I am thoroughly looking forward to this expansion. Though I would prefer it to be released on a disc, I can understand reasons for it being digital-only. I just dislike Impulse and would prefer not to go through it.
You can buy it directly from Stardock. What is it you don't like from Impulse?

The time is good now for a good trailer...especially with all these disappointed SotSII players around (i am sure that SotSII will be a good game but it will take some more months).

You should maybe keep your eye open for the upcoming game Gemini Wars . http://geminiwars.camel101.com/ An older and great game is Conquest: frontier Wars ...if you can find it.
Strength & Honour 2 Looks very promising, but also quite similar to the Total War games, but then with lower graphics. How does it compare?
The overall concept is similar, you manage your cities and your armies, engage in diplomatic actions and so forth. The biggest difference is the extensive use of individuals at all levels. In an army with 10 divisions, you'll have 1 marshall and 9 generals...each in

Hi, I would advise one of the last three games by magitech: - Sango 2 (China during the 3 Kingdoms) - Takeda 3 (Japan in Sengoku period) - Strength & Honour 2 (Antic World from Spain to China). All these games have a turn based strategy map and real-time battles that you may let autoresolve. Graphics are basic but the gameplay and the AI are top. They are fairly unknown but really great. I'l
