When crackers crack though, they bypass certain things which could infact bypass the expected error of a DRM failure and generate an unhandled exception. Once someone manipulates your code, your error handling is not longer intact and may no longer produce the desired effect. Obviously Ironlore could not fix the crack.

Personally I am not even sure I would give HGL a 4/10. To me it deserves a 3. I played the late Beta. I even bought the god forsaken thing. I still don't know why I bought it. I guess I had hoped that it might improve. I suppose it still could, but right now it sucks... that is all there is too it. The graphics aren't bad, I like the randomization, but other than that... it is garbage. The game play is boring... there is no fun to be had. I would sell it if I could. I try to be

What kind of prompt should they have included? How would they know how to intercept and error invoked by a cracker? The cracks always come after the release, thus one cannot predict code changes or how they would effect the game. Even if they added a dialog after a DRM failure, there would be no insurance at all that a cracked version would not make an attempt to surpass that and prevent the dialog from showing altogether.

I personally dislike any kind of DRM. I find it silly that I have to keep a stack of DVDs next to my computer just so I can play the game I want to when I want to. I swear for my next computer I am going to get an oversized tower with 10 DVD drives just so I can keep my favorite games in a ready to play state. Nothing turns me off more than having to fish through a stack to find my game disk. I guess that makes me lazy, but I should not have to deal with that. Not with today's technology.
A mini map would alleviate the constant need to zoom all the way out and then all the way back in again, which is part of what's wrong with the interface IMO. I'm not a fan of Supreme Commander for the same reason. The game is paced for certain sized systems, so less planets, while nominally an option, doesn't actually improve gameplay. And the empire tree, while a good fleet management tool and an adequate building tool, is not particularly practical for tracking anything else. It lacks
I finally pinned down a description that, for me, sums up this game: It's Rise of Nations in space with too few factions, too many planets/ cities, no mini map, no strategic campaign, even worse diplomacy, and a lousy interface. That's what's really been bugging me all this time, it's very similar to a game I've already played and like better. It's certainly worlds prettier than RoN, but that's secondary at best. Damn it took me a long time to figure that out.
Would you e
Okay... I purchased it, and I have my serial-number... but in Stardock Central on the Register Games pane I don't have any way to select Born of Blood to enter the serial number, and I don't have the game listed in my games to download.Um... did I break my account by purchasing from that link just before you officially posted it? Or is there some glitch with SDCentral preventing me from downloading BoB?
Try it again. I see it in the list.
I should be able to get it out today.
It is much appreciated. Thank you!
Is BOB stand-alone or do you require SOTS installed to play?
I do believe it does require the original SOTS to install it. You may want to try the SOTS demo if you haven't played it. It is "different", and not everyone's cup of tea. It is almost one of those games that is hard to really like at first, but it grows on you over time. At least it grew on me.

That extra fee per month concept sounds interesting. I think it would be a great concept if it was optional and feasible. The biggest problem I see with that structure is determining who gets how much money. Say a new record label comes out of the woodwork at a later date and gets very large. At what point would they start getting a cut? How would the other record labels feel about it? The same would go for software. Myself... I probably would fork out $50 a month to be ab

That is not what I am getting at. He is a thief and has made it very clear he steals just about every piece of software he gets his hands on. He only now buys this game to support removing protection that would benefit his pirating activities. I personally have no qualms with removing copy protection and am thankful to Stardock that I do not have to deal with it, but I just don't understand what message the OP is really trying to convey. Is he saying that if all companies removed c

What I find most odd about the OP is the fact that he encourages companies to remove copy protection when he would benefit dramatically from that effect.

I have two systems I play on, both are XP systems. Desktop: Athlon XP 3000+ ~2.2 GHz 2 Gigs RAM GeForce 7800GS 256 MB I play at 1650x1050 with most settings on High/Highest. Frankly I haven't even tried them all on Highest yet. It would probably work great though, I just haven't felt unsatisfied with the way the settings are right now. The game doesn't skip a beat.
