The AI is still being retarded about running away, but the melodrama over how stupid it is needs to disappear. Before the patch, I could defend a world against a full scale invasion without even sending a fleet. 24 points in hangar bays, a couple repair platforms and the rest in turrets was enough to kill the siege frigates, wipe out the enemy strike forces, gain "air" superiority, and neuter the rest of the fleet till it broke. If I did need to send in a fleet, I'd send in a whopping cap
You don't get to take the high road here. You're not friendly tech support. You're just a forum troll with a torch. You're really just proving the internet ****wad theory. You just happen to be doing it with good grammar, spelling and a lack of cussing. Since you're totally into hasty conclusions here's my hasty conclusion for you: You need to stop playing on small maps with locked teams and only 1 or 2 AI players with easy settings.
Well at least you ap
Are you serious? I had an enemy Kortul Devastator stand toe to toe against my two Kol Battleships until he popped. We were also at the very esgeof the gravity well the whole time. He could have easily escaped... but he didn't. Of course it still runs, but definetly not as much as before. And if you're expecting it to always stay and fight then that's just absurd. No one will consiously stay to get beat everytime. I havn't seen it surrender yet, but if they did add the surrender option to
As for staleness... really, if $40 spent on entertainment lasts for tens of hours it's a bit mean to say "mere" tens of hours. Most ways we could spend $40 on fun wouldn't keep us entertained anything like so long; concerts, movies, sports tickets, food and booze, even books would struggle.
I only said "mere tens of hours" because I was comparing it to his hundreds of hours. I'm at maybe 40 and I bought the game on release day, so, I was saying he played the game a lot l
a seemingly unending process of nuking and then colonizing planet after planet until you reach the home planet where you, at last, get to fight one big battle. There are few strategies as for example there is no serious way one could outtech another's fleet and thus fight numbers with quality. On top of that the AI sucks bad. So tired of fleets of percherons and robotic cruisers.
This alone has made the game stale for me after just tens of hours. Astat

Come on man, there are threads on ALL of these issues already in the forum. If you spam complaint threads like this it actually hurts your case because it takes Stardock longer to look through everything. If anything, this belongs in the 1.03 change log thread. Don't spam your complaints, actually take some time to look through the forums before you rush to make posts like this.
So with great hopes I cranked up a large map game in 1.03 with unlocked teams because by golly at some point I'd like to actually make allies.Within about 40 minutes I get this:This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 1280x767.I haven't even had time to do a 2nd mission with anyone to even get them to ceasefire percentages and yet 3 different AI players have already sent giant fleets at my 2 little worlds.Awesome.
You
But, what it SHOULD do at that point is not to retreat to some planet closer to "home." Instead, it should find a way to get behind your lines, forcing you to commit ships to the defense of your own systems. This may well force a "pullback." It doesn't even have to win a battle on such efforts: Lee managed to prolong a losing position for almost 2 years with Gettysburg.
That is a good idea, and I would approve of that. If the AI did that, even in a scripted situation, it
@ bonerfest > Thanks for your correction. I am not visually impaired : I had focused on the official 1.03 changelog, not paying any attention to the homepage. My hypothesis, then, is that a marketing-oriented author, on the homepage, got carried away.As far as I'm concerned, the official changelog is the most correct & precise, reliable technical info ... and I do not see any « vastly improved » A.I. there.
The 'researcher' AI will throw a vasari fleet with a good whack of Subverters and Overseers (and other race equivalents) together and use their abilities in combat. It suffers instead from failing to build a fleet with enough big hitters in it and being terrible at picking which of your units to kill first.
Again, this is irrelevant when AI fleets retreat if they even have the slightest chance of losing the battle. I've even seen a fleet with with a Kol, ~7 siege frigat
Well, it is. It still blows, but that doesn't negate reality. Building 400 light frigates and a couple capital ships nearly every game, never researching any abilities, and getting creamed even with 10-1 odds is a vastly inferior ai when compared to the still pathetic, but vastly superior ai we have now. It sucks, but it's still better than the previous even more sucky version.
As far as I have seen, the AI still does this. In fact, not only do they build an un
i dont know where the OP got the idea that 1.03 would provide (to quote the OP) a « vastly improved AI » ! ...let me quote the official changelog for 1.03, in what concerns the A.I. changes : -AI now knows how to surrender (based on time elapsed, relative economy, relative fleet value, resource reserves, and allied strength). Also, an AI player will not surrender if he has a human ally.-AI is now smarter about retreating and is willing to commit local suicide or accept local Phyrric victo
