So there was a hotfix after the patch release last night. I think that's a pattern; patch then hotfix short time later. I like to know what's been changed when a patch is applied. So what was "hotfixed" this time?

What about designating "wilderness" areas that cannot be settled and where the "deer and the buffalo roam"...and all other sorts of critters. Such an approach would also create boundaries for "urban sprawl" and keep the number of cities somewhat in check.

Good points made here! Another problem exacerbating the campaign slowdown issue, or perhaps accelerating the tediousness, is the change from the beta release where new cities are built with no up front cost. In the beta, each successive new city cost more money. I think it was something like 100 for the first, 200 for the second, 300 for the third, and so on. But having removed that element encourages/forces the player to continue grabbing up land and creating cities as of

Same thing happened to me. Patched to 1.06 in the evening and started a new game. Spent a couple hours on the new game. Next day, home from work and saw yet another patch was out so installed it and broke my save game. Was confused so went into the chat lobby and someone helpful clarified for me what happened with the hotfix release just a few hours after the earlier patch. I preferred the system where each successive city cost more than the previous, forcing me to plan carfully. Now its just a mad dash for land grabbing. And the unfortunate side effect is that the game tends to run progressively slower with each new city. I wonder why there was a change ?
