Search Goggle for '.dds Thumbnail Viewer'. With that nifty piece, you can view all those .DDS files in the Textures folder as a thumbnail, eliminating the need to open each individually. Very handy.
I will have a bonus of 50% the first level then + 35% each following one?
You mean 15%, right? Yes, that would be right. This is mainly for use with Fleet Supply etc, where each level is a new research button.
Its a very good question. I will try. Seeing as the Forum STILL ISN'T FIXED! And 1.03 isn't out, I've got some time to kill. And yes, Chronicles of Riddick was an excellent film, and thats a good idea for a planet. But how would it be portrayed? Texture and Traits?
As antracer mentioned, this would be infinitely more helpful with coloured or Bold/Italic text. At the moment, it is quite indistinguishable.
I just have a small suggestion concerning what I'm assuming are city lights on your planets. Take a look at space photos of the earth and how the lights are distributed. I believe you need to have some smaller patches/dots of lights interspersed between the giant swaths of city. That will make it look more natural and pretty.
On that point I don't think he has finished the Night side. They are still from the night side of my Forest World, and he probably hasn't edited t
We're not really cocking anything up. I would have gone better in a new thread, but no matter. I answered the OP in one of my earlier posts, and he hasn't replied so I assumed he got it sorted. And unfortunately, I'm off now. Just try and replicate the screens I have posted. The thing to remember is, you are not using the donut for anything more than visual alignment. The work you do will be on the unaltered background, in the Pole areas. Good luck, and remember, keep at it ;)
Most of them are far fetched, but I like the idea of the Burnt planet. I'm just off in a minute, but feel free to keep posting. Or PM a huge list if you'd like it private. And isn't the last one there, the two-faced one off Star Wars? And your couldn't do that, the planet rotation is hard coded I believe. You should also try your hand at texturing, if you could texture as well as you imagine, then you'd be an very helpful asset ;) Thanks again for the input.
Pah, I'm no teacher either. If the 'student' is willing to learn, then I could keep explaining it again and again. But when the 'student' gives up and doesn't take it seriously, or moans, I give up pretty quick. But you sir, I admire you persistence. I could go on for hours like this, not that I want to, but I'd still try.
No no no. You had it before the resize  We'll get there eventually :CONGRAT: Just like my screen, that size, then move it so the 'hole' aligns over the pole 'area'. Edit: Heres a screen. The red is the new layer, which you will delete after you have done your stuff. The background is the turquoise, thats what you edit to blend in with the donut. Ok, I see what you are doing. Select the area, COPY -> PASTE. Then, with your new layer selected, go through the same process. Edit: Screeny ;) Edit2: Sh*t, ignore the right hand side, my background, haven't actually got dual monitor, but I have my monitor set to have 2 screens, so I can switch between them.
I like some of your ideas, but, some are too similar to the ones I have at present. I'll give a little breakdown: - I like the Abandoned Planet, thats a good idea. I may include that somewhere along the line. - The Swamp planet will most likely be in 1.3, it was mentioned somewhere in this vast thread, so I'll forgive you for missing it ;) - Crystal and Metal planets have also crossed my mind, but, to make them realistic, the resources they would give would sort your empire for good.
No, and thank you for the profuse amount of smileys :d
Yes. Thats it. But it is a lot easier to copy and paste it to a new layer, then you can move the donut shape it makes so it is positioned on top of the pole. Edit: I am using Photoshop CS2, as is Diablo, I believe. What are you using, I don't recognise the layout.
Is that the entire texture? It seems to be missing the top inch or so. I can't wait to try out this method on my next load of textures. Great find Diablo.
Thats one hell of a post. And one hell of a project. If you can pull it off, it would be amazing, adding infinite realism to the game. Theres not a lot else I can say, only Good luck, and if you need any help, I'm sure we will all aid you where possible. What progress have you made so far? I heard you talking about textures, or was that someone else, I loose track of what everyone is doing :NOTSURE:
Right. How far have you got with making it? Making new blocks as far as I know is impossible, but you can expand the default ones to include a few extra lines. As for the research, I think 15% is fine, and personally I would up it to something that will make a difference, namely top 30%, maybe more. But thats just me, and I do have a tendency to over do bonuses somewhat ;)
Right. I'll be totally honest. When I popped on this thread, I only saw your first reply, and it only contained the 'Where is the Edit Button' bit. I didn't read the first post, nor the added bit to your first reply, also it seems very confusing (maybe thats just me). Could you just give me the gist of your post, upgrading what? And which Icon do you mean? The main menu logo I added, or the research page logo, or even the custom research icons? I'm lost, sorry (:(
yeah... the only edit button is in the "Last reply" so I can't even update my reply.
Yeh, thats not new, you can only edit a reply that hasn't be replied to itself. But the first post should also be editable. I have it on good authority now that it is a maintenance problem. Should be fixed soon, I hope. Mmm... thats a shame Annatar. Maybe they will include some way to do it in the final Mod Tools. Maybe....
Very good to hear that, Diablo, I will give that a try in a minute. Edit: Pah! It bloody works! Great spot, that probably would have taken me a few hours or more to find. Thanks a lot Diablo.
It's been my secret wish that we'll be able to comment the text files for our own reference.. that would make the strings file alone so much more manageable
I totally agree. Just a few moments ago it struck me that I am soon going to need comment sections in some of my files, mainly to see where my edits from one update stop and another update starts. Is there definitely no such thing in Sins files?
This is worrying. They better sort it quick, else that is going to seriously f*ck with peoples mod pages who update regularly. I hope its a bug, rather than a new feature.
Well, it should be: Top right, hit the Tools Button, then Edit. But I just checked my own post, and its not there. Weird, must have something to do with the Forum update.
I can't believe I've missed this mod, it slipped under the radar so to speak. The new models and textures for those ships are outstanding. A very unique look to them, unlike most 'new' races in many games, they actually look completely different to the Vanilla 3. Your texturing and modeling skills are sublime, keep up the excellent work. (Sorry for taking so long to notice this gem ;))
Lol! What a reply. Thats going in the Top 10 replies list. So simple, so pointless, but so, so comical! :D
@ Chaney Ah, no problem. @ Aequitas Nearly there, but I have run into some "unexpected" crashes. I'm working on them as we speak. Although, seeing as 1.03 should be out in the foreseeable future, I may hold it off, so I can release 1.2 to be compatible with it. @ Grave I have a few things in mind for 1.3. Not as many new planets, but probably more texture for existing ones, and a few from the 'uncolonisable' section. 1.2 is going through testin
