In Europa Universalis, they have a few surrenderish mechanics that make a bit more sense here... You can have people declare themselves vassals, in which case, they share tax money, can't attack you and rely on you for military support when attacked. Countries will do this either for stronger nations with which they have very friendly relations and a lot in common, or for countries with whom they were losing a war. There's another type of surrender in which during a war, a country annexes the

I've tried a few games before buying...this being one of them. And agree that Stardocks approach and honesty as well as their excellent product won me over. Legally, I suppose this is wrong. Ethically, I'm not so sure. If it's a product worth owning, then the people who worked so hard to produce that product should be compensated. In the case of Gal Civ II, I believe that they have created a great product and deserved my money, even though I didn't need to give them it to play the g

Sounds cool, so long as it's limited. Many games/gamers use those types of systems to Min/Max - or create a character that is amazing at one thing and horrible at everything else. So they decide up front they want to be an awesome warrior, and who cares about everything else (in this game that could be a +100 attack/soldiering, -100 trade). The problem is that the penalties sometimes don't even hinder the player, as they design them with the goal of taking the penalty in an area that doesn't

the one thing to watch out for with tech trading...don't trade away your diplomatic techs! You want to keep the advantage. Also, I try not to trade in research techs, so that I can wind up being king of the hill for both research and diplomacy. If you're going for a peaceful victory, try to get economic and research treaties from every race (do this early, before they start making treaties with each other). With regards to economic star bases, they will help your economy if you've

just to make sure...what's your population on these planets? If you just colonized them, the populations may be very low, and this will definitely influence productivity.

Maybe it's just to balance them out...so you get more initial bang for your buck from a pq 7 planet, but if you develop the infrastructure/tech properly, that pq 4 will really shine. Going for all pq 4 planets will screw you in the short term, while all pq 5-7 will not help you as much in the long term (but may be better if you plan to not develop those at all). Having a mix seems ideal, but all are viable strategies....seems like a good balance.
