Yep, launch the game, get past the menu, new game (solo), a few minutes into the game (which is running fine up to that point) a kick to the desktop, no messages or anything. And SoaSE is the last thing installed on my comp. How do I check the event logs?

The problem is fairly simple, the game crashes to Desktop after a few minutes, no error messages or anything, and the game was running fine up to the crash. Then it just closes and I'm staring at my desktop. To make matters wierder, the game's been running fine for the past 2 days, I've had 1 crash, but that's all. Now every game I start I get the same thing, few minutes into the game and then a crash. I'm running a 2.40 GHz Intel Celeron, 1 GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9200 128 MB, Wind

Thx for the replies, it helped :)
1: No, could it have been insurgents? (TEC Tech) Or a wormhole (some maps have one way wormholes specifically made to get into the rear of an enemy)?
Nope, not insurgents. And the only wormhole on the map is under my control and leads to a totally different star system. Well, I must have been paying even less attention than I thought. Though a warning "There's a big freaking fleet passing through your systems!" would be nice :p<b

Use colony frigates to capture the existing metal extractors. EDIT: To be precise, I've found neutral extractors in asteroid belts that I then captured and they provided income. Not sure if they are present in all asteroid belts since I'm pretty new to the game myself.

I've started playing SoaSE and I must say I'm overall impressed with the game. But I'm still learning the ropes and I have a few questions: 1. Can ships bypass jump lanes? If yes, does the AI take advantage of this? I've had huge enemy fleets showing up on my inner worlds while I control the only chokepoint planet that allows access (and keep a huge fleet there). It is possible they ran the blockade while I wasn't looking, but I'd spot them eventually since I have a fair number of scout

Yeah, I assumed as much from what I read, so i tried to pick a totally unrelated bonus. It still replaced one of the default ones. Not just the Yor. For instance, the humans lose the diplomacy bonus even when I try taking something that they didn't have before (creativity or some such). Currently, I'm stuck not spending those last 3 customization points at all...

Managed to undo the changes (deleting the files in the GalCiv2 folder in Docs&Settings), but I'm back to square 1: Whenever I try using the leftover points for customization I end up losing a random default ability. For instance, as I mentioned in my original post, using ANY points as the Yor, whatever I pick replaces the +100 Loyalty. Is this supposed to happen? Is this a bug? If not, I could use an explanation as to how the damn thing works...

Ok, I stumbled upon the GalCiv2 wiki and answered a few of my questions (inherent bonuses, leftover points and how I managed to lose the inherent bonuses). My only question now is: Can I restore the default civilizations without reinstalling the game? Is there a button to press? A file to delete? A kitten to sacrifice?

I'm a bit new to the game. Got most of the basics down, but one thing still puzzles me: the race customization. Assuming I'm going with one of the default races (not a custom one), am i supposed to use the leftover points in the customization screen? At first I assumed they are supposed to "flesh out" your race and let the player adjust them to his/her own style, but I ran into some problems... For instance, whenever I try to add something to the Yor, they lose their innate +10
