Heuristics are a way to try to detect viruses by looking at behavior. It is prone to false positives, because it's not a real signature match - it's just a guess. It is designed as a defense against viruses that change their own code, which is a way viruses try to avoid detection by signature matches. Since Stardock software does things in non-standard ways, which is how they make things like desktop skins possible, it is understandable their software could get accidentally marked.</p

. . . and now I'm not activating. Also noticed that it's no longer under EdgeRunner, but under Stardock itself? How can I activate it now? It wants me to activate it via the EdgeRunner website.
It might be a shared folder - shared by somebody else with me.
So - tried scanning my Google Drive with SpaceMonger, got lots of unscanned space that just sits there. According to Google it is largely Drive stuff, but with it remaining unscanned, I can't really see what's there. Any idea what's up with that?
I have developed an application at work that uses javascript extensively to create graphs from data tables. I don't see how doing the chart calculations can be a secuirty thtreat or how I woild produce the graphs without a script./
Theoretically, you could do the processing server side and send the result to the client. If your graph has labels and somebody gains access to the data tables, they could i
HTML5 is garbage. We need a better alternative.
Well, there are things like XAML. But they tend to be platform specific. Getting browser support for something new would be a big barrier.
and then: " JavaScript and Flash should truly go the way of the dinosaurs..." how should HTML5 replace Flash without Javascript? without Javascript HTML5 content can not be interactive or animated.
Indeed - JavaScript is one of the cornerstones of new web technologies. Without it, HTML 5 is basically the same as HTML 4 - nothing but a static page.
Interesting find. Truth be known - nobody uses it anymore. The most popular non-browser-native technology is Flash, not Java (and do remember that Java is not JavaScript!). And Flash itself is dying with the advent of HTML 5 and related technologies. Minecraft is a desktop app, so it won't be affected. Same with development tools like Eclipse and NetBeans. They're desktop applications, not in-browser apps. The only popular thing I can think of t
Honestly, Microsoft should be ashamed of the lack of forthought put into it and how little it gave users.
It gave users quite a bit. Increased security far above XP's security. Both under the hood, invisible changes (better stack protection, ASLR), as well as the very visible (to the point of annoying) UAC. Graphics and sound libraries were rewritten. Vista uses hardware acceleration on the desktop, which should improve the performance of ap
quoting post The only question now is - can SDC make it another mile? SDC v2 has been going quite well, for over 6 months now.... Welcome back, yourself....
Well, I just received an email about it. Haven't really been keeping up with Stardock much these days.
Forward a mile, back two steps, and forward one step. Perhaps I should explain: Stardock Central has been around before. Back then, I firmly believe it was way, way ahead of its time. The ability to buy and download software is IMO the way of the future, and how we will be buying most of our software going forward. Impulse pushed things even further and went along the route I believe was going to be the logical conclusion of this type of product: A full online store for
"I'm not looking forward to an app store on windows, to much control to big brother..." Well, the internet way is prone to hackers and malware authors, and is a bit inconvenient to find anything. Can't say I'm thrilled about it.
LOL. I played Silkroad, but it essentially became Botroad. I quit the game because no matter how much they tried, they just couldn't control the bots. I'm currently a WoW player. "As long as we're bashing WOW... ... would you like some GAME with that UI?" LOL, that's terrible. Go to WoW Insider and
Seriously, what should we do now that Impulse is no longer working with Object Desktop? Should I remove my OD registrations from Impulse? I have a Tiles update, and it refuses to update thanks to this . . . and it's really annoying. . . . and it's kinda sad that Impulse is going games-only, rather than apps and games. In all seriousness, I've always felt that Windows has needed an apps store, rather than the current method of scouring the internet for applications. Sigh, p
"I have used Steam for some games and personally don't like it." You may not personally like it, however that doesn't mean that it is objectively a bad thing. "It seems way to intrusive on my computer and I don't like the idea that it keeps track of how many hours I have played each game, friends list pop-ups,Internet connection requirements, etc." A lot of people are fine with it. You can set
Another bug: Fences doesn't resize. WANTED: Filter by menu title. Some processes (ie, javaw.exe) are generic containers and can host more than one appication type, and I'd also like to filter out the "games" window in Explorer to go into my "games" tile.
Yay, still have my object desktop subscription, can try it out. Thoughts: Great concept, especially great for tablets and other touch screen devices, I imagine. Would like to have more Windows 7 like features, like pinning and the little controls on the previews. I have never been fond of the Start menu. Never, to be honest. IMO this is a start to perhaps replacing the thing. I don't like the way it snaps when I drag the mouse - it

Unfortunatley my company (22,000 employees) has so many legacy applications and web tools that we are stuck on IE6 forever. But I am looking forward to IE9 for my own personal use for sure.
I hate to say this - but we may see businesses in reall
And this is why competition is so important - look what happens at Microsoft when there's serious competition to IE =). From what I've read so far, it looks like Microsoft is pushing hard on performance and standards compliance on this one. Although I think Firefox is working on hardware acceleration and HTML 5 as well, it's nice to see that Microsoft is finally trying to push forward and actually try to make progress in areas people care about. What I think has flown under th
No idea who started it but its refering to shooting things (guns, phasers or lighting bolt in WoW) by the sound.
k, thanks. Was wondering about that - never heard them described that way.
Until Bing can offer some serious innovations it'll just be another search engine.
What kind of innovations need to be done? Search has always been ridiculously simple: A search box and a button to start the search. It's awfully hard to be innovative when the best form of the product is the KISS principle taken to its logical conclusion. The only thing they can really do is to very carefully add features in a way that dosn't distract people from the sear
I'm surprised you didn't mentioned the "sxs" folder, that would have been what I consider a valid point since they don't tell you before installing that this folder is going to eat your free space on the system partition as a everhungry monster, with little to no counter options to get around that
It's basically a compatibility feature found in XP. I think Vista/7 do something a bit differently? Not sure. One of the big, big issues with older OSes is something c
IMHO sometimes people want something different too - having small variants on the same thing is nice, but I think there are some people out there who don't mind a crazy skin occasionally. Seeing the same thing all of the time can get a bit boring. But being able to add textures and recolor Aero and existing skins is very nice :).
