using version 1.11 Beta In Win7-style menu, items in the right-hand column configured for "appear as link" cannot trigger the context menu with right-click. However, if the keyboard is used to focus one of these items, the context-menu button (Win-menu key on keyboard) does invoke the context menu. What's more, AFTER using the Win-menu key, right-clicking with the mouse also starts to bring up context menus correctly, but only until the

I agree that it's pretty spammy. But I personally am glad to see the deals. In my opinion, each and every company that I've installed software from (and I mean by explicitly running its setup program, not bundleware) gets a free pass to throw up one advertisement, once, after that it's opt-in. Here's a solution I suggest would make everyone happy: Add a dialog box version, that doesn't go away until dismissed. Numerous people have said that the current system f

Ok, when dealing with blue screen of death it's important to understand something about CPU protected mode. Specifically, it isn't possible for a game bug to cause a BSOD. Only kernel mode code can cause a BSOD, and it's either a driver bug or hardware failure... always. Next item to note is that Intel CPUs are protected against overheating, the chip itself will scale down the speed. However, your video card is not so smart. Also, the fact that another game runs for hours is totally meaning

The DVD burner confusion comes from the fact that there's a $300 version with monitor, DVD+-RW and Vista. The $200 model has only a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo. You wouldn't really want to run Vista with those specs, but Linux ought to fly. Booting linux from a USB hard disk isn't trivial, I wanted to do so with a laptop and had to modernize an old kernel patch. The problem is that USB device detection is done asynchronously because some USB devices initialize slowly (as they

The problem is that we can smash open the teachers skull and find a brain, yet we cannot smash open the sky and find a god. Ask the astronauts, they'll just tell you it's space outside of here. Astronauts are statistically far more likely to believe in God than the general population.

You just stumbled upon the great fallacy that many athiests (though not all) make. You said "I know." I know that there is a God, and I know what He wants me to do. How can I say that I know this? Because I believe in revalation, that God does speak to man. I accept the witness of those who He has called as Prophets, who have seen Him, have heard His voice, and lead His church. I have what would hold up in any court as evidence that something ha

I've got another suggestion for speed balancing: Make the starbase interdiction module continue to reduce the speed of slow ships by 1, but also cap the speed of fast ships (at about 10). Instead of clipping the movepoints to the max speed, it should deduct the drop in max movepoints from the available movepoints. So if a ship with speed 25 (which I guess is still possible with Ultradrive and best miniaturization but big engines) moves 5 hexes and enters a starbase ZOE, both max and c

I think it would be doable. Rules something like this -- Planetary bombardment becomes a new upgrade for a military starbase which has to be built in say 10 stages (let's call it Galactic Domination X). It takes one month (four turns) to charge, during which time all starbase weaponry becomes useless. Only the ship speed modules, Stellar Wake, Inverse Tractor Beam, and Interdiction, remain online. For that matter, let's have Galactic Domination increase the range of those modules by

Note that the bug isn't choosing the GeForce (although there should probably be an option, the WW3: Black Gold demo I downloaded from totalgaming.net does this perfectly) The bug is that the Win32 window that clips applications and handles mouse input is on a different screen than the 3D graphics. Seems like a call to GetMonitorInfo might be in order to place that window correctly. http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/gdi/monitor_27e7.asp http:/

Here's the debug.err from the beta.... but don't look too close, I'll post a unified diff next since I'm sure that's a lot more useful Debug Message: Version v1.3 beta 2a last updated on: Tue Aug 8 16:18:51 2006 Debug Message: *********DXDiag info follows.********* System Info Time: 8/19/2006, 19:00:58 DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) Machine Name: RBV4531 Operating System: Windows 2000 Professional (5.0, Build 2195) Service Pack 4 Languages:

Can't be prefs.ini, since using Stardock Central to restore my archived v1.2 went back to working. It's definitely something introduced in the beta. Here's debug.err for v1.2 that works: Debug Message: Version v1.2 last updated on: Mon Jun 12 18:04:26 2006 Debug Message: *********DXDiag info follows.********* System Info Time: 8/19/2006, 18:47:16 DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) Machine Name: RBV4531 Operating System: Windows 2000 Profes

Just updated to the 1.3 beta 2a and tried running the game. Put the graphics on my secondary screen (I'll explain in a sec). Since it had told me I needed to reboot, I went ahead and did that, and tried again. Same problem. Ok, I have Windows 2000 Pro with a Radeon 8500LE AGP card and a Geforve 6200 PCI card. Both of them are dual-monitor capable, but I have one monitor on each (I got the geforce card because ATI wasn't running dual monitors under linux properly). I can try putting
