ios 8 has been troublesome for me. Keyboard issues. Gestures not working. My iPad hesitating. This was released in poor condition. I don't think Steve Jobs would have let this pass.

I've never built my own system. I'm sure some others on the forum could help you with specs on the Mobo, etc. I think ASUS is a solid brand though. On the CPU, assuming your DAW is multithreaded 64-bit, the more cores the better. If your DAW is not multithreaded, then I'm not certain how much the CPU upgrade would help. With 32-bit, the extra RAM won't help much either. It would be better to have an i5 than a Core Duo. You would notice a leap in performance there

Sounds like you have yourself equipped on the audio end. As for the CPU, I would go with at least an i5, preferably an i7. IMO 8 GB of RAM is plenty.

When you say music, does that mean for recording with a DAW? If so, you'll want a decent interface for that. But with a small budget you can always add that later.

I've not used Windows 8. The screenshots of it look ugly though. And most people I know who use it say they don't like it. But all in all, the OS doesn't matter to me all that much. I don't spend a lot of time staring at my desktop. I switched to Windows because of the vast array of software available on it. If I was a real sticker for the OS, I might still be using a Mac [e digicons];P[/e] . From what I've heard, even with the UI of Windows 8, it still seems to work fine
