and there's only Rock for AIs. Oh, I absolutely agree. I almost made this observation in my first post. I think its because the AI uses way points, and then auto fleets and auto attacks. Not a lot of strategy level code needs to be written to do this... but it is a brute force blunt approach with serious weaknesses. Fixing it... well, fixing it is almost certainly a problem for the next game. but if we provide them goo

Not the logistic, the combat in DA is flawed: I think the bigger problem is with hull sizes myself. As far as I can tell the combat system is very well balanced in the "everyone uses medium fighters" level. That is one reason I want slower and slower research level options, I want to force everyone to this level of warfare. A medium fighter can't be made invincible from defense, but they also don't pack enough firepower vs. hp ratio so that defense becomes
Thanks for the vote of support all. And a big congratulations are in order for Neilo and the Council. I look forward to representing the community. Good luck, ~ Wyndstar
Actually, re-reading my post I misspoke, doom rays only do 1-22 damage. Still, so you will kill in about 5 rounds. You will still take damage with the 375 Mass Driver Defense ships as well. Going roughly from your numbers I'm going to guess those Dreadnaughts have 26 black hole guns - 1-16 x 26 = 416 x 1.75 = 728 attack (ish) I'm sure I'm off but this is close enough for example purposes. So, Here is what happens when that dread attacks: Roll 1 (1-312) (75% attack
will I "survive the tie" Ah, I see - this is your main question. Sorry I missed it. I have experimented a LOT with the tie rule and am very sure I know how it produces results. The tie rule works thusly: 1. If all ships on both sides are destroyed simultaneously in the same round (not necessarily the first round) - then the side with the higher attack value will retain 1 ship with its highest attack value with 1 hp. 2.<b
If you want to read some analysis by Iztok and myself regarding a war I fought with a maxed out tech tree I recommend looking here . And off type defense bug is now fixed, so that is not a factor. If the Korath are using individual superpower ships you are going to have to fleet up and just eat the losses. If they are using fleets of superpower ships you are going to have to send in suicide ships to just do lots of dama
I absolutely agree with Iztok. Progress up to suicidal naturally. Once Maso is boring because it is so easy, move on up. It may or may not help you - among other things I played pretty sloppy - but here is an AAR I posted a few months ago on suicidal difficulty on a medium map: Altarian Rebellion AAR Not all strategies work in all situations. Good luck on improving your game. - Wyndsta
and load up a couple of cargo hulls with them and don't bother with engines. Combine with Spin Control Center (gained from Total Majesty) and early on everyone will love you and send you presents. - Wyndstar
Maybe this game is too smart for me. Lower the difficulty level. Cakewalk difficulty isn't too smart for a drooling hamster. - Wyndstar
With the current lack of better data I can conclude only with a general rule-of-thumb: if you want more money, keep pop happy. The return of morale buildings? Depends of course, on the size of the penalty (vs. 2.5% increase from one additional stock market) - Wyndstar
Well, playing DL changes a lot of the formula's considerably. First, morale buildings (well VR centers) ARE worthwhile... they let you raise your tax rate by 3%, which is better than a stock market. Also, higher populations are much more manageable, so you can use more than one basic farm and/or research farms all the way. As a general rule it is a good idea to go military around the time that the first two or three enemy civs go military. Just keep a look at the mili
Thanks for laying this out Iztok. I pretty much knew most of this, but it is nice to have it in one place. Player pays full amount of BCs for each point. Ug. Asteroids just keep getting worse. They take too long to upgrade, they don't provide enough points, AND you have to pay for it all? I don't bother with asteroids much... but still. It's a good thing you start off with a free space miner so that you never have to spend any actual in gam
Also, it means you shouldn't ever bother with farms (build econ buildings instead). You should also be wary of morale buildings. This thread and the two links in the first post there provide most of the information you are looking for. By changing the "home planet" population to 16b from 12b, it might be advisable to build one morale building on home worlds, depending on yo
Well, I ran two tournaments in part to get to the bottom of this question. The Krynn won both of them. My belief for the top three best races in DA (in order) are: 1. Krynn 2. Thalan 3. Korath Although its pretty close between them. Other races are still strong. That doesn't mean that those three are necessarily the most fun to play as. But your question is which is the best overall... Krynn. - Wyndstar
There is only one method I have been able to use to get super warrior to work early game: Take the full +military bonus (I also like any +speed bonus you can spare) With luck get also a military resource early. Take as much luck as you can get. (+50%) Load up a cargo hull with as many weapons as you can get. Fleet up your cargo hulls. Go to town on small and tiny ships. So, for a custom race I have done it this way: +20% weapons (2 pts) +25% lu
Super Cultivator - Civ adds +1 tile to each planet for each terraforming tech researched (for a total of +3 tiles to all planets with all three techs) Super Defender - Civ gets to triple its soldiering score when attacked. +25% defense bonus to ships. Super Explorer - Civ gets +speed/+range and +sensor Super Capital - Civ get a PQ24+ homeworld
Given what I've seen, that's not physically possible, at least w/o using leases that cripple your empire for turns 20-100 or so Well, so you have figured out that the AI starts out by leasing. So, either learn how to manage an economy using leases, or try to overcome the AI early by overcoming the fact that the AI is paying leases (so will have less cash 20 turns in). The AI is not getting any advantages that you can't duplicate. The real ques
The list of changes looks great! I can't wait for even more improvements for starbases, I love it. Is there a limit to how high you can send their HP I wonder?? I like the new anomoly changes as well. Should really help the "all ships can survey" ability. I sympathize with Iztok wanting to be able to turn them off completely... but if they are respawning that might prove difficult. As for some of the other ideas mentioned - i agree with Oldstatesman. I really would rather
You know Mumble, it could just be that you have been on here enough that you know everyone who plays galciv2. So of course you recognize all the names. To be fair, I played the game for a long time before I ever discovered these forums. Short of sending an email to people that the election is occuring, I don't know how to let more people know about it. Again, good luck to everyone. An
Sharing serial numbers is stealing from stardock, a violation of the EULA, and a crime. Ignorance of the law is not a crime, but it is also not a defense!! Why can't blonde's make Kool-Aid? They can't figure out how to fit 2 liters of water into those little packets. - Wyndstar
Well, it is an honor just to be nominated First off I would like to thank the MVC for all of their work so far. The changes made to the AltMeta have really enriched metaverse play options. Even running these elections probably at times feels like a thankless task. So I want to let all of them know that their efforts are appreciated. An interesting and thriving metaverse can really add
Another great read Hydro. I'm jealous. I also love the Thalans. Nice to see them conquer another system! Good luck. - Wyndstar
I see no problem with you guys voting. - Wyndstar
I agree, although people often have short memories. IMO a better, and only slightly harder to implement, approach would to be to weight the happiness of the preceding 26 weeks, so that the current week mattered the most, but all the weeks still mattered. Have this weeks morale be worth 26/351 Have last weeks morale be worth 25/351 Have morale from two weeks ago be worth 24/351 ... Have morale from 26 weeks ago be worth 1/351 This way, you can still effect
