Troll? Nope, never been accused of that anywhere before. Rival gaming programmer? please, that's a bit rich! Just a customer. The remarks were intended purely as general feedback to Stardock, not to start an inflammatory debate with 3rd parties. I have tried to remain at least courteous and not attack any other forum member and have made it clear all along that this thread is just venting on my part. If Stardock have read this, fine, they can make what they will of it. I think they are a very go

People LOVE games. I like to immerse my self in a good game as much as the next person, and the GC2 series is conceptually great for that. That being the case, some folks will want a game to work so, so, badly that they are willing to work for free to help fix a product they have paid for. Software companies/publishers sometimes fall into the trap of counting on this (or call it short term brilliance on their part since it seems to work). If you put your love for the game aside for a minute thou
I appreciate your responses and respect your opinons, but it's just a rant, leave it at that. I'm a programmer as well, have been by profession for nearly 25 years. The code I write is not entertainment software, and perhaps for that reason users are not inclined to be patient and donate their own time to help me remove defects. De-bugging (or helping others to de-bug) is something I do at work, not on my leisure time. Issues like updating drivers, ensuring adequate memory, ensuring gr
Not sure if there is a special place one should go just to rant, but here it is: I bought DA some time ago but only got around to really playing it recently. I'm at release 1.08. I am finding this game to be inexcusably bug-ridden for a mainstream blockbuster release. What the heck happened?? In addition to the invisible ship bug, I can't begin to count the other different types of lockups, crashes, serious video glitches and obvious gameplay bugs I've run into. My system is a very s
For me it's the opposing forces' ships which are often invisible (you do see their race's ship marker when you zoom out). I have to turn battle sequences off before the invisible ships attack me or I attack them, or else the game crashes. Are we talking about the same bug? Very nasty bug imo, should definitely be high on the hit list. (I am patched up to the latest version of Dark Avatar).
I think up a new theme each game, which may or may not involve individual ship names for medium hull and up. Currently I'm playing as an evil wannabe custom race (my 1st Dark Avatar game) that likes to model itself after the old earth Soviet Union, hence some recognizable ship/plane names such as Nanuchkas, MiGs. Cheesy, I know, but there have been a few humorous miscues, like when the first units of my beautifully designed Backfire bombers came off the production line, they flew, well, backward
A hoot! Mr Francis aptly demonstrates that you don't really need to have a perfect plan (or even a good one) - so long as you bungle your way through the game with panache you will have a blast no matter the outcome.
Conquest victory is by destroying all "major" civs. The minors do not count. Trust me I saw it in a game as drengi domination. Okay, that's good to know. Perhaps it's my faultly memory but I could've sworn that in my very 1st game I had conquered all the major races but the game wouldn't let me win un
I allied with a minor race as a tactic to prevent the Arceans from taking their planet (which I want for myself), but now I can't break the alliance with the minor race!! Unlike the major races, there is no "break alliance" checkbox for the minor ones. How do you break alliances with minor races??? As Conquest is the only victory option turned on in my game I suspect I'll wipe everyone else out then not be able to finish the game because of
Okay, I noticed that after downloading & installing the latest ATI Catalyst driver package there is a new ATI icon on my desktop & taskbar, in addition to the one previously there. It seems to make a difference which of these I use to change my display resolution (our computer is normally left at 800 x 600 but I set it to 1280 x 1024 to play GC2). I am well into a game during which I have used only the new ATI icon for setting resolution, and have not
I get this too. Is it on the list of things to fix yet?? I haven't noticed if it is specifically linked to going into combat or not, but it happens frequently enough that in my current game I'm at the point of having to save-exit-restart GC2 every couple of turns - very annoying. I'm running Windows XP Home, SP2, my video card is an ATI Radeon 9600 SE. I updated my video drivers to the latest to see if that would fix it but it hasn't. I play
