Also in your next game i would sugest puting out posts around your citys to have greater response time basicaly now you only have 2 or 3turns notice to get reniforcments to your citys when you spot the enemy with outposts farther out you would have doudle the time to respond

Regarding the end of episode 16 Freeze that enemy stack in place with Freeze or Tremor spell till you can get reinforcments to your captial. and if yoy htink it might make a difference rush build to finish that shield bearer in your capital
