The combat system has changed GalCiv2 - DA. It would be very handy if someone from Stardock could please do a Beta Sticky on it so we know what we are testing. The Combat system is one of the most emotive aspects of GalCiv, and it will be zoomed in on and taken apart in minute detail on final release. However we cant Beta test that - and therefore avaoid a possible area of negative comment on final release - unless we know what it is and how its supposed to react. Regards<br/

My current game is a normal game, not metaverse. I'll give a metaverse one a whirl when done and see if I get it then Regards Zy
Its by design - but needs balancing. See thread at: Drengin ship ability thread There is a comment by Kryo about this there as well Regards Zy
Fair point - my only thought there was to cover the eventuality that a player would decide to dump the lot, and there is no way of doing so within that popup. Whilst the popup retains focus you cant get at the clear button on the main screen. It would be easy to impliment as that precise clear function etc is already there for the main shipyard screen - just need to copy it across to this part of the code. Obvious workround to avoid being stuck in a loop when you might want to dump it
They seem to be less frequent - as such - altho as pointed out they are definately more prevelant on small PQ worlds than before. I have a feeling the new distribution/level/frequency is as a result of introducing Asteroid Belts and Miners. Introduce an additional form of production, and the overall game balance has to be adjusted somehow, otherwise the game looses balance with over-production enabling too much expenditure on key items. Regards Zy
Nice original thoughts, I like the innovation side of it. My only comment as such would be to avoid re-writing history, even if it is only a game. Most game makers avoid rewriting history, politics and religion like the plague - it can lead to a whole world of hurt, jingoism and plain sillyness when all they want to do is sell a game. Games are sold on a world wide basis - they hope - and the
Not come across the SE games - by the way you explained it - it sounds like a 'Series?' of games in the same genre. What is it ? Regards Zy
Playing the easy levels will produce that kind of simplistic - to use your phrase - kiddy deduction. Play the full game at the higher difficulty levels and you get a whole new ball park. Your deduction that there are no improvements in depth is way way off the mark. It sounds like your wanting the game to "fail", if so there is little point in trying it. All games have their strengths and characteristics, its always pointless extracting one aspect of one game and slaying another gam
Agents working fine with my Beta 1A - what part is not working ? Regards Zy
Alternate way is to click the red spy icon bottom left of screen on the control panel, then click the target planet. Regards Zy
Re 1. Agree totally, its frustrating and confusing Good pick up on 3 - I'd forgotten that kind of issue - agree totally. It appears that tabs are set to some kind of default after clicking anything within the Tab, or its loosing focus for some reason. However so caused, all Tabs should as a default behaviour, retain focus until explicitly changed by the Player. Currently not the case with a few Tabs, difficult to describe as its not consistent (either that or the Tab coding is not
If the game you booted up was pre-Beta 1A that would probably explain it. As a generalistion you should complete a game before loading updated code or you can get unexpected side effects. New versions are not always backwards compatible with existing running games for obvious reasons. Regards Zy
This one is a bit of an old chestnut, but its been a very common request throughout GalCiv2 todate. It would be good to finally nail this one with DA. The Tech Tree descriptions are too bland - there needs to be a better description of what you are getting for your efforts. "improved", "top of the line" "new generation" etc etc doesnt say a lot - says nothing frankly - and only serves to minimise game maintenance as weapon techs change for different game versions (not a good Prioriti
It would be handy to have the details of the super abilities. As time moves on I learn of more details of them from others posts that I havent noticed or known about. There are general descriptions of Super Abilitiers in the game, but I am not aware of anywhere where it gives the detail of each one. Whilst the above Drengin incident is obviously a balancing issue (Please god ), it demonstr
If they had mass drivers yes you should. If they had other weapon types, no matter how small then it will depend on the armor level - GalCiv2 enabled other offense & defense types with a value of the square root of the offense or defense system. eg shield value 4 also had a value 2 against mass drivers, a beam weapon of value 4 effective against armor as a mass driver weapon of value 2. Dont know if still applies as they have changed the combat system for Beta 1A and we dont know wh
In the Beta 1A shipyard, when a design is made ready to name, and subsequently given a name the same as an existing design, it correctly warns you about overwriting etc and gives yes/no for continue. However if you press "no", you loose all the completed design work. Suggest three buttons, Yes - means go ahead and over write (tooltip on mouse over to say "overwrite") No - means no, dont overwrite, I will give another name (tooltip "rename") Clear - means forget it, clea
Hinriad Nice alternate text, that might move it into "mini-event" territory, but the general drift behind it is exactly what I was trying to illustrate. A Great game - as opposed to "just" a good game - fosters the Immersion Factor, and things need to be on the edge of believeability. They dont have to be anywhere near reality of course - but they have to have a believeable perception about it. In fantasy movies, expectation is that events and happenings will b
I had not come across that one - interesting. I am starting to get a bad feeling about a number of these Super Abilities. They need to have a credible ring of truth even if it takes a long pull at science fiction to engender that credibility. The best science fiction movies are always the ones that ensure the background ethos and activities still have a "well maybe, yup could happen I guess" ring about them. This one is not credible, its beyond remotest belief that a State w
Been getting the same freezes - my autosave files reload fine and work away happily afterwards. I have always rebooted before reloading Regards Zy
Solutions are not the issue as I clearly stated - they are easy enough, dont play the YOR in a game, which I now dont - hit em hard at a narrow point of the boarder going for the high value influence planets to zap the AOI, which I did as a last time of playing them. The solutions are not an issue - there are many of them. If the ability was an intrinsic part of the game I would agree that reduction is going down the dumbing down road, which is never a good idea. I dont believe it c
The Super Ability of reducing opponents down to 3 moves that the YOR have needs to be amended. Its way over the top at its current value, and extremely frustrating. Build in game frustrations and you ask for angst from new or casual players. It destroys the flow of the game. Of course it can be countered by using heavily defended ships with Eyes of the Universe ability, that can just plough thro anything they throw at them on their way to taking out high value influence planets. That

Beta 1A already ..... *Stunned of UK* Thats some software factory you got there Frogboy, you have my admiration - nice one Regards Zy
Kudelv I agree that change would be less "in your face" but still get a message across, we dont want to be seen as some kind of preditor etc down the latter road lay a whole world of hurt Cumberberg The game has such depth and breadth that you will find many swear on their mother's grave that "X" is the way to go. All different ways:) Their view being tainted by the way they play. As in all things there exceptions to every generalisation, but by in large the following broad b
