Mine field in space? like a chinese wall or something around your cultural borders? mass and energies required would not even be conceivable... (by me at least ) only place where a mine field would make sense is around a planet, as a good way to soften a bit invading ships. I don't build all the stuff that can improve the defense of a planet, I rely on fleets to defend space, and prefer to

wide screen, definitively. better with most applications, because the WS is more adapted to our vision (we embrace much more horizontally than vertically). Issue only under microsoft word (the format of a letter is traditionnally vertical: the WS is worse than the 4:3 from that perspective). and in galciv2, despite my low-end, outdated graphic card (GeForce 5200), graphics on my 20" WS look perfect. And I feel I can see more of the galaxy at a glance. NB: I have taken

Valakov, have you not been had by this trade? Actually, if teh Drath and you are allied and the UP resolution 'allied starbases benefit allied planets' is passed, they keep the benefits of the eco starbases, but you get to pay for their maintenance... What's the use of an economic starbase for you if it is far away from your planets? apart from the little influence gain, i think you've been had.

those rangers would be extremely powerful if there was chokepoints... but everyone can go around those slow ships, and they are always too late in battles. I don't think they are too powerful... I wish that by scrapping them one could get a random precursor tech (old days with an old game, when my titans and battle stars with gravity beams were full of space marines, all ready to raid inside the ships from Antarès)...

some systems ought to have monsters guarding them... so as early in the game it is dangerous to send a ship in space in the unknown... seriously, I don't bother making scouts, I send colony ships patrolling the galaxy from the beginning, and I use the flagship to scout the anomalies... the cost of a colony ship vs the chance of capturing a new planet before the AI does makes the day. As well, once the universe has been scouted, there is no way to grow

well Han Solo also also is a freighter's captain... could have been a terrific marine as well (more seriously, is it replayable? I will try doing the same, since that captain story may be glitch on the algorithm: this could save billion lives on my planets, but that would count as cheating.)

well... random50, even with 1.0x, if you have little military, they go warring against you. I don't build a large military at all, but research almost only military techs. They all come demanding tributes, and in just a few turns after they declare war. (truth is, that fits ok with my way of playing: Since the upgrading costs so much, I find it not worthy of it to pay maintenance fees for quickly outdated ships. So when war comes, I tweak th

It's funny, looks like there are very different tactics. I focus on engine first, and i try to have cheap sensor fighter in my fleets (with no attack, no defense, but sensors) so it is never attacked. this way I can see far away, and can close on my preys quickly. Second i focus on one type of attack. Third on hull size. this way I get an easy space suprematy in my space and borders, mostly because I always a

I spent hours, certainly like a few of you, on civfanatics.com when civ 4 went out, reading the forums on fixing bugs I had, and potential fixes, and patches to come. That one thing I remember one of the Firaxis folk saying was PC's are so diverse in terms of components, drivers, etc... that it is nearly impossible to get a game properly tested over all those supports. The conclusion was civilization 5 would likely run on consoles. (a bit of a shock to

maybe it's got nothing to do with it, but there are export regulation rules as well... remember the ps2, it was supposed not to be sold to people in Iran, Cuba, etc... since it was said to be used for guiding missiles. never heard that sort of crap about PC's.

Hello, I have the very same issue on my desktop OS? -> XP, SP2, french language CPU/RAM? -> AMD 2400+, 1GB RAM (SDRAM) Video Card? -> Geforce 5200FX Updated video drivers? -> yes, 2 days ago from Nvidia. Version of the game? -> bought the european's collector edition, then downloaded the latest patch (1.0 something) 2 days ago from Stardock Did you download and install the movie pack completely?

just like the RedBaron said, I got it for 28.99€ from play.com whereas paradox (the European distributor) sells it 45€... I thnik amazon.co.uk sell it approx the same price. for the time being, I like it as much as civ4 and it is only half the price. It is already a cheap but very high quality game, Stardock are not likely to make it even cheaper... besides, I am unsure it is worth distributing games in China: illegal copies must already be
