Memory space is like money. You can never have too much but you definitely notice it when you don't have enough. I have an 80, a 120, and a 160. I need more space. And speaking of time.... It takes my virus system, AVG Pro, about 1 hour to scan everything. And it takes exactly 9 hours to do a complete reformat of the 120. That's not fun waiting for it to finish. There are a number of online sites offering very cheap, even free,

My desktop tends to revolve around the wallpaper. If I was an interior decorator I would call the various skins accessories to a main theme. This is why I enjoy looking at the different screen shots so much because I am always picking up new ideas. Window Blinds are maybe the most important skin as they are so defining of the edges. I enjoy WBs that are easy to change the color if need be and don't screw around with the visibility of the type. And a st
So where did Sharman Networks happen to have a spare 100,000,000 just sitting around? I thought Kazaa was long dead except for users who didn't know better. Apparently not. Obviously there is a lot of money to be made in providing the means for people to "borrow" the creations of others.
Lantec, very funny but you are missing some extremely important buttons. I mean, NO guy wants to have the same channel on all the time. That's where the expression "surfing" came from. How about a button for New, Old, and Repeat? One more idea and it's a good one. I promise. You need a button for "screen on screen" or for "two monitors". Last idea and I promise to shut up. This remote is going to get a real workout and the batteries probably won't last long. So how about a "s
I view a screenshot as to how it all revolves around the WP. The wallpaper is the central focus point and I see everything else acting in concert to create a larger theme. I enjoy screenshots where it is obvious that the creator took some time and thought to arrange his/her final view. What also makes it worthwhile is when you see some new skin, or maybe an older one that you tend to use in a certain way, and realize that it is far more involved than y
Just tried to vote and it isn't working. I clicked on the VOTE button but I never got a chance to pick anything. This looks like your typical one party "People's Republic" set up. And the winner with 99.9% of the vote is .....
Good points. I have a collection of WBs that I refuse to throw away but I never can seem to tolerate them more than a short while. My biggest objection to some skins is when the main part of the window is of a color or shade that makes it virtually impossible to read the type. Deep grey or brown just doesn't work. I know some people get sick of a white interior but at least it is useable. Someone once posted a way to change your interior color but I co
A useful program for those files that still won't go away is Unlocker. You know, the ones where you get the pop up error message that says: Cannot delete file: Access is denied There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use. The file is in use by another program or user. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use. The software i
Icon Developer will open the file.
Talk about an upgrade! Very classy and easy to work with. Nice job.
I'm in the 20% who have a negative impression of Vista. This is based on my understanding that Microsoft intends to incorporate some form of open ended copy protection for third party applications. What I have been following are articles discussing the links between the media industry and Microsoft in attempting to put a "lock" on media files in an attempt to stop illegal downloading of music and movies. I can emphasize with the media industry, a littl
I'll leave the discussions about Iran/Iraq to other forums. But the economic issues that you raise are right to the point. While there are exceptions, I do not see most of Europe as a source for creative ideas that improve the economic and social well being of its citizens. It is easy to point to socalled progressive health and welfare benefits but these all depend upon a work ethic and social cohesiveness that is rapidly dying in countries like France
WB by one of my favorite skinners on this board. Sternengalaxy and his work Blue Metallic. Icons Orion (Cobalt) by Mormegil. WinAmp 883 enkera which is REALLY strange in the full version. And the wallpaper? I bet you wish.
This is more fun than reading the comments that follow each news article on Yahoo. I'll confess to being someone who gets tired of all the dark and gloomy skins. It's nice to see a colorful and cheerful one now and then. And as far as sternengalaxy goes, I have 4 of his skins which ties him with one other person as having the most WBs on my computer. Different strokes for different folks. <br
People name their computers? Your kidding? My computer is It and that's the extent of our relationship even though I spend hours a day playing with it. I don't think naming your computer is healthy. Or your car. Or your house like they do in England. Or ... well ... I was going to say something else but it's kind of a guy thing.
It's programs like Paint Shot Pro that remind me how far I am to the left of the bell curve. I started with version 7 and upgraded to the recent one earlier this year. To this day I still don't understand what a vector is. Nor how to work with something as an entirety after you added or subtracted a selection. The Help section in version 10 is MUCH better than earlier versions but I really need a live tutor. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/wc/smi
This is a perfect example of why socialism does not work. There is absolutely no incentive for anyone to create something new. If they charge for it then they are greedy. If they give it away then they must be cheating somehow. I have so many software programs that originally started with a basic idea and have expanded over the years to include everything but the kitchen sink. Nero 7, for example, can burn CDs & DVDs, create covers, play me
GoodMorphin, what software are you using that puts the center window(s) at a tilt? I have Paint Shop Pro X which allows you to rotate a photo but it keeps an original "box" of the starting size so the tilted picture ends up with a color all around it. Clicking on transparent for the background simply means that the surrounding color is white. I run into the same problem when I try to make my homemade icons. I always end up with a surrounding square or
This works only with tabbed docks. With regular docks you need to go to the same "positioning" section. Where it says "Z-Ordering" choose "Always on top". And I agree that the new features on this program are great. The ability to now move docks off the edges is a winner.
The above method works for me too. A 3rd party program that is free is Faststone Capture at http://www.faststone.org/ . I also have their Faststone Image Viewer. Both are really loaded with features and very easy to use.
Just now noticed this thread. As someone who hasn't a clue on how these skins are made I can really appreciate the work that must go into them. However, every skinner must know that once they submit their work to the world it is going to be used by people in any number of ways that personalize their desktop. That's what this is all about. Yes, sites like this provide a place for artists to show off their creations but there are no bouncers at the door to stop the "common fo'k" from entering and
It has been up and done for me lately. The pages of skins tend to open fairly fast but when I click on an individual skin things really slow down. And if I try to look at the large version of the skin....... well, it gives me a chance to run to store for something to snack on. I've found that a page that is stalling is easier just to completely stop and then immediat
Screen savers don't do much for me. Out of sight, out of mind if you know what I mean. I use Stardocks 2006 Aquarium with my own wallpaper and some fish icons that I found. Clink on the link and see if you can tell which fish are "real" and which are icons? http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/8010/fishtank4ys.jpg
I am going to disagree with the last post. Charging for skins is the quickest way to lose visitors to this site. It is one thing to purchase the programs that make all of this happen. That is to be expected. And your package deal is a great idea. If need be raise the price $10 and see what happens. But don't start charging for skins. We have become a society that expects instant gratification and then moves on to something else. You can deba
BigDogBigFeet, just keep working at it. I ignored OD for quite a while until I begin to play around a bit with it. What turned me off were the ugly icons that come with the program and the way it automatically starts you out on the bottom right on top of your taskbar. Once I begin to understand the difference between regular docks, which I prefer, and tabbed docks along with the ability to place your docks along the sides I started to become interested
