The AI might take into consideration how many other civs have the tech in question. Supply and demand... If everyone is able to give the last civ the tech, why shouldn't they sell it cheap? After all, if you don't, there's guaranteed to be someone else who will take the petty cash. Thus, as the player whores away a given tech, (

Some of your analysis is not completely accurate. Production: It is very difficult to compare research bonuses to social/military bonuses. The benefits of these are similar but the scale on which they apply is very different. For instance, many research technologies will reward your entire empire with a bonus to production, influence, morale, or any number of things. Social and military projects can also reward your empire si
Purchase a factory immediately as your first building. This requires you to have extra cash, of course. If you cannot afford to purchase a factory, build one - even though it takes so long. When it is finished, remaining improvements will be made significantly faster. - Fragsworth
Low quality planets suck. No matter what you do on them, it isn't going to be amazing. You can make them a research planet, and they will barely increase your total research. You can make them a factory planet and build starships at an extremely slow rate. You can make them an economic planet and slightly increase your income. - Fragsworth
Do they receive the bonuses? Say I place Harmony Crystals (Universal + to Morale) on a tile that gives +100% morale to the building placed on it. Does this work? I was not able to tell in my games, because the end bonus is so small. Or, say I place a manufacturing capital on a +700% manufacturing tile. Would this work? - Fragsworth
It is probably best to design one ship class which has sensors, and have it follow your fighters. The whole fleet will benefit from the sensors that one ship has, rather than sacrificing weapons/defense/speed to waste sensors on all of your fighters. - Fragsworth
But if you haven't built your own yet, and you take over the *%*@*% Drengin's Class 4 planet with an economic capital and two factories . . . you are very sad Yes this is rather annoying. They should come up with a fix for it. Perhaps it should ask you when you capture a planet that is a capital. Yo
I played my first game (tough) with +60% to diplomacy, then raced on all the +diplo techs and basically sold off old techs when I needed to up my balance. I didn't even abuse the system to the fullest, but was waaaaay out in front in tech anyway. I'm not sure what the solution to the problem is though. <br/
I disagree about the tech trading being too powerful. Even on Normal difficulty, the opposition won't give you good techs unless you give up something of high value yourself. The devs recently made the AI value techs more, so try updating to the new version (1.0X1), and it may be fine for you. Try g
1. Stealth Technology. I think this would be really cool for the expansion. After researching (perhaps in the Sensors tree), you could put stealth modules on your ships to make them invisible to everyone, at least on the map. It would be great for freighters and transports. Additionally, stealth detection technology could be researched and also be added to your ships as modules. 2. Portal Technology. I personally like
I posted about this before but got no response. I feel this is an issue that needs to be fixed soon. Diplomacy is FAR TOO POWERFUL. You can win extremely easily, even on suicidal difficulty, by going through this arduous process each turn: Speak to all of the other civilizations, purchase any new technologies they developed on that turn, and sell their technologies to all the other civilizations. Finish your turn, and repeat.
Every couple of turns, you can check every other empire to see if they researched any new technologies. If one of them did, you purchase it from them for cash, and sell it to all the rest of the civilizations. The net result of this is that enemy research becomes cash for you. Maybe this isn't technically an "exploit," but it is certainly too powerful in a game with many empires (5 or more). You do not need to have any other source of incom
