And most planets you capture will have SOME manufacturing on it.. you just need to improve it. Not all do. Plus, most of the invasion tactics have a chance of destroying improvements.

You can't. They took it out because when you got to the horizon line the game had to draw half the universe and your computer would melt.
There are rumors that the morale improvement tiles aren't working quite right as well.
You upgrade a starbase with another constructor. Every upgrade costs one constructor plus bc in some cases.
I'm still confused as to why anyone would be crying about a non-existent retail version. It's 2006, download it. If that's not reason enough, those of us who did download have been playing for almost five days now. (The tech tree might be nice, but it's worthless after a few hours of play. The GCII tech tree is not complex.)
I'd just like some keyboard love. Not everyone is as fond of the mouse as the developers apparently are. For example, there is a "Go to rally point" keyboard shortcut: T. After you click "T", you have to use your mouse to select the rally point. Shouldn't I be able to use the arrow keys on my keyboard or the first letter of the rally point? Just one example of a very mouse-centric UI.

I was in the middle of downloading DesktopX when my D/L speed came crashing to under 1KB/s. I thought, "I bet they're allowing GC2 preloads now. Sure enough, I get an email 2 minutes later saying the preload is available. Took me about 15 more minutes to download DesktopX, which is considerable smaller than the preload. Hope this isn't going to put a kink in all of Stardock's downloads. d0med! Update: DesktopX is finished downloading. Restarted SDC, got new versi
