If you haven't took time to update your video or audio drivers, chances are you probably haven't updated your DirectX files either. Couldn't hurt to make sure you have the latest installment of Direct X. Many games won't work properly if you don't keep Direct X updated.

I like to get as much info on a game as i can before i buy it. I use a combination of internet previews/reviews, magazine previews/reviews, the game and/or developer's site, and demos.

I voted no both because of the lost features and because $20 just seemed a little too much for just one new feature. $10 for just a multiplayer feature seems right to me. But also, since it comes down to either multiplayer or other features (new techs, a new tech line, improved AI, new governments, maybe another race, hopefully a feature that lets you be able to choose to build an older version of a building if you don't want to build the latest and greatest version of the

I'd like to see the teams feature be improved, so that you can set up two or more permanent teams. You can have the player's team, and then any number of ai teams, and the player can put in however many ai races he wants into his team, as well as the other teams. Perhaps even set it so that all the races in a team are close or allied to all the other races in their team.

I voted against, not because I'm against mulitplayer, but because $20 seemed a bit much for nothing more than just a multiplayer mode. If there was a decent amount more added to GC2 than just multiplayer, than I would've voted yes. Or if the envisioned price was $9.95 I would've voted yes. If the envisioned price was $14.95, I'd consider it, but would need some time to think it over. I'd possibly vote yes.

What seems like the most popular way for putting out expansion packs these days is to first do it the traditional way and put out the expansion pack by itself. Then around 4 months later put out a Gold Edition, which includes the original game, patched to it's latest version, the expansion pack, also patched to it's latest version, and a pdf manual that explains both the original game and it's expansion, and which is updated to explain all the changes

Yesterday, I was spending the day in our state capitol, Lincoln, and stopped by both Super Walmart and Best Buy. Neither of them had Galactic Civilizations 2 in stock yet. On my way home, I stopped by the Super Walmart in York (a city of 9,000) and that walmart hasn't had Galactic Civilizations in stock yet either. So I decided to order from the online wholesaler www.gogamer.com, that says they are going to stock the game, and they either don't have it in stock yet or are back-order

Well, that's how good of a deal Stardock is offering us. A full year of free bug fixes and tweaks. Very few others give you a years worth of those. For GalCiv 1, they even put out one free expansion to the game that you could download via Stardock Central, which is also a free program that you can download and log into using the same log in information that you use for this site.

Even if they miss it during gamma release, if they're doing things like they did with GalCiv 1, they'll offer a full year of update service with GalCiv 2. They had patches with bug fixes and game tweaks coming out about every 2 to 4 weeks. You'd just have to send them your current savegame file, and error report file from SmartException, and they'll look into it. They even have a chatroom on Stardock Central you can go to talk to them about error and bug problems.
