I'd expect that except in fields that actively filter for intelligent people, intelligence is going to be negatively correlated with every area of human interest, simply on account of most people not being in the top intelligence brackets. I think the best way to understand the relationship between intelligence and religion is not to look at studies like these, but to study the works of any one of the hundreds of intelligent religious people o

Damn, now this is some poker discussion. Can't wait to see Pac's reply.
Awsome! Thanks, IG. Glad I could bring a smile to your face. You totally brought one to mine!
Thats' an interesting theory, aeryck. Would you mind talking a little bit more about it? I'd like to know some of the details, especially what experiences have caused you to think this.
Hypothetically: Is it possible for someone to be convinced that they are, say, a woman trapped in a man's body, and be horribly mistaken? I mean, we know that we don't always have a clear understanding of what's going on in our mind and heart. If we did, we wouldn't need psychotherapists and psychologists. Anyway, discuss.<!-- Ju-Anchor-Foo
The way I understand Christianity, the guilt is there already, on account of we know the difference between right and wrong, but sometimes do the wrong thing anyway. All the Christian "religion" does is claim to offer the only effective method for forgiveness of that guilt.
While we wait, I'll give it a shot... I, the Penis, am asking for a raise, on acccount of: § I work at great depths. § I dive headfirst into any "situation". § I don't need "week-ends" or vacations. § I work in humid environments. § I don't get paid overtime. § I work in dark and poorly-ventilated environments. § I work in high temperatures. § I'm exposed to contagiou
-True...I think part of it is the fact that someone is making money off of it. At least, lots of money.... Totally! I hate it when people get rewarded for doing things that other people approve of and enjoy!
Kylie's vocal stylings, combined with her songwriter's and producer's skilful blend of pop, techno, and disco sounds, make up a significant part of my playlist. Of course, I'm also convinced that her singing career is a cover for her role as an assassin for the Gay Mafia...
That's a good way to look at it except for one detail. Just because you're spending the money doesn't mean it's the right choice. Yeah, but it's my money. As long as I'm not breaking any laws, I can spend it any way I want, and only I can say for sure if it's the "right" choice. Athletes want
I like the fact that you made a distinction between the Christian mechanism of sin, guilt and forgiveness, and the mechanism by which we punish ourselves through misplaced guilt.
Also, if it's too early for you, that means you shouldn't go see it. It doesn't mean the movie shouldn't be made yet.
Movies are one way in which our culture communicates group experiences. It's totally natural for us to want to make a movie about something that had such an impact on us. It's one of the ways in which we memorialize important people and events. Honestly, I'm surprised that it hasn't been done sooner. And I don't think that showing how a group of random airline passengers, normal everyday people, stood up and fought a
Athletes are paid no more than the people paying them are willing to pay. The people doing the paying are the only ones who can say for sure whether or not their money is well spent. Since they're obviously paying the athletes (well, the athletes that are getting paid, anyway), I'm going to assume that they don't think athletes are being paid too much.
So basically, a chav is a british gangsta, with strong wigger overtones.

Does anybody actually have a link to an article about this bridge? You know, like, say, an original source for the picture? Some more detailed discussion of the engineering marvel? IG, where did you find out about this bridge? Can we look in the same place, to find out more information for ourselves?
I've been in three accidents. The first was just after I'd gotten my car, and before I'd even gotten my license. While using my permit to drive my mom and myself home in my new (to me) car, I missed the brake pedal at a stop sign and bumped the car in front of me. I was doing about 10 MPH at the time, broke a taillight on the other car. The second was driving home from work one afternoon. There was a sudden slowdown on the road ahea
Now I'm hella confused. At first, I was gonna just admit that I suck, and that I totally misunderstood the point of the article. But then I went back just now and re-read the article. Nothing there tells me I was supposed to post a new story. And the very title tells me to decide on the f-word story. So I decided, and showed my work. What did I miss?
Oh ye of little faith: Snopes: "False" http://www.snopes.com/language/acronyms/fuck.htm The Straigh Dope: "The best guess is that "fuck" comes from the Middle English fucken, to strike, move quickly, penetrate, from the German ficken, meaning approximately the same thing." http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a2_268b.html (According to Cecil, I'm probably wrong about the agricultural origin, but definitely right about it not being
Acronyms are relatively new additions to English. "Fuck" is a very old word in English. This is definitely not the origin of the word "fuck". You might have better luck looking for Old English, Anglo-Saxon, and Germanic words for "plowing" and "sowing (seeds)". You will be pleasantly surprised to discover that these older words for similar activities are the actual source of the modern "fuck".
I find that speeding actually causes me to pay more attention. Because things are happening so much faster, I find myself - looking farther ahead, - predicting traffic patterns further in advance, - focusing more on my driving than on other things - imagining various contingencies, and - making plans in advance for dealing with various contingencies. When I'm speeding, the cars around me hold no surprises,
That is awsome! May I share your story on the "Customers Suck" Livejournal community? They love this sort of thing. http://community.livejournal.com/customers_suck
I usually like a good two-hour interval, but I can get started sooner if she's willing to accept a slightly longer and more attentive foreplay period (her being more attentive to me, that is). Another thing that works for us is starting Round Two immediately upon completion of Round One, but leaving "Mister Wang" on the bench and using other... techniques... instead.
