I just installed Microsoft 365 (had no choice in the matter, neither here nor there). Now the right-click "Change Icon" function is not working - dialog just fails to appear. I can open IP itself but the right-click option is on the fritz, even after a reboot. Anyone else encounter this? Suggestions? Uninstall/reinstall? Thanks, Daiwa

You are correct. Not every individual app was designed for or is compatible with Windows 11. Some of the apps in the suite are 20 year old legacy apps - why they remain there I don't know. Each app, however, has info on OS compatibility and a number of the apps already work in Windows 11 or are being updated to do so.
Object Dock is specifically not supported in Windows 10. Some have been able to install it in Windows 10 environments & have it work but it has been hit & miss from what I've read. It obviously functioned in your OS prior to the reformat but the version of Windows 10 you ended up with may not play nice with it.
Appears to have been a temporary phenomenon. I'll quit my bitchin'.

Follow-up to above reply from me: For one of the staff, this was her second bout of COVID. The first was November 2020; she got 2 doses of vaccine in 2021 and got the second bout anyway. Seeing a moderate number of people now having second bouts despite doing everything "right." And pull through stronger than before, RND.

Three staff members with mild URI symptoms tested positive last week. All had mild illnesses resolving in 3-4 days & are back to work. I've had a steady dribble of patients reporting positive home tests, almost daily, the past 2 weeks. So far, no one very ill. Don't know how I've dodged the bullet, but the Fat Lady ain't even warming up yet. That is all.

One purpose of my original post was to point out the direction in which OS 'optimization' is going - ratcheting toward enclosing the Windows garden and forcing app developers to sell through the Store, not that prohibitions of non-Store third party apps exist as we speak. As for the HIPAA issues & invasiveness of 11, I'll abide by our tech's advice as I trust it after working with him for 20+ years.
I have no first hand experience with Windows 11, either. One of the things we pay our tech support for is avoiding stepping in it.
DaveRI - I get that there is an inevitable ratchet in one direction. But in many cases, we're not talking trivial ancillary cost. One case in particular our tech shared was of an architectural firm whose perfectly functioning application required a $24k upgrade to work in Win 11.
I'm not qualified or knowledgeable enough to specify or list all of the things that make 11 more silently invasive than 10. I can only relay the concerns of our tech support professional whose livelihood depends on understanding the inner workings of the beast. The 'spying' that MS was doing with prior versions, even Win 7, was almost entirely of the 'telemetry' variety, easily shut down - information that was useful to Windows developers but couldn't really be monetized in the Facebook sense. Win 11 takes things to a different level & purpose.
Let's hope the ability to close those loopholes remains available. At some point, when MS decides sufficient migration to Windows11 has occurred for the OS to be 'indispensable', I'm not so optimistic. Easy peasy for them to remove the user interfaces for those loopholes and voila.

RND - I agree S mode is not something you are stuck with... for now. And don't doubt you that the mode can be changed via a setting. My tech may have just preferred to use the MS Windows installation tool, as opposed to changing a setting, perhaps because of the ancillary driver & BT issues we encountered. Thanks for your input.
