I'm a WindowBlinds 1.0 veteran and have followed the product through all it's growth. My Tablet PC only has the Intel 915 GM/GMS graphics chipset, so I don't get Aero on my Vista. I recently came across "True Transparency" which does support providing Aero on only Vista Basic capable systems: http://www.crystalxp.net/galerie/en.id.5139-truetransparency-lefreut-explorer-tools.htm I'm surprise somebody beat Stardock to the punch. Is it possible we will see th

dwm.exe is now stable with version 5.49u[b].053 Thanks So Much!
Still a problem. I created a video showing dwm.exe crashing, should I email it? [If you can't recreate, please let me help you debug this] Your computer has a Windows Experience Index base score of 1 Your Windows Graphics Experience score is 1.9 WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 5 (5.50 (build 99 x86 - Vista Edition)) WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC <br
Bloody Templar, like you I'm out in the cold with a Tablet PC that has the Intel 915 chipset, Vista Ultimate w/Basic video. The Good News : Try using WindowFX to recoup the shadows, window transitions, transparent taskbar, I even make my TIP transparent; however, no taskbar previews. The Bad News : While WindowBlinds will appear to offer some value of skins and effects, overall it really is not a product for us at this time. O
From the WindowBlinds Configuration dialog, Click on View my systems information . If the Never use per pixel borders on a skin at the bottom is checked, then Aero see-thru will be disabled. Uncheck it if it is. Apply and close. Next, check your Windows Display Properties, Settings tab. If your Color quality is not set to 32-bit (sometimes called Highest or True Color ), you will not see the Aero see-thru. Set it to 32-bit. Apply
Question on Vista Basic Video Enhancements: Background: My tablet has the Intel 915GM/GMS,910GML chipset which does not support Vista Aero. Running XP + Windowblinds 5,I get a wonderful Aero experience with much valve-add. Running Vista Ultimate, with only Basic video support, there is very little valve-add to using Windowblinds (however, Window FX does offer significant value-add to Basic video support) Question: At any future date, will Vista Windowblinds offer Ae
-You must have WDDM drivers for your video card on Vista for this build to work. Yes, it is clearly stated, but was missed by Me. Touché
He he, unfortunately Vista w/o WindowBlinds > XP w/WindowBlinds (from a tablet experience perspective) It's worth waiting for WB to get another version out
Good catch of my mistyping, it's dwm.exe, only.
Two excellent debugging suggestions: (1) Yes, I do you have the option checked to never use per pixel (2) After setting dwm.exe to not be skinned, it still cycles (not surprising to me because I believe it to be a background process, but well worth trying) Please share any further epiphanies as they come - Jim
This is interesting. My Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family based Tablet PC only supports Vista Basic. While running WB 5.5 beta, I've noticed that the Microsoft Desktop Window Manager (dwe.exe) is in an in-finite loop of starting, using CPU, ending. The process ID changes just about every other second. Without WindowBlinds, dwm.exe runs steady (same PID) using little to no CPU. I will be curious to find out if there's a cause/effect relationship here due to
How about an Application Transparency option to fade to full visibility on mouse over?
Neil: Thanks for putting an early WB Beta out for us Vista users to tinker with. Like Nidonocu, I have no aero (Intel 915GMS chipset) and am hoping to find it via Windowblinds, fully understanding you're working with a completely different API. Keep the updates coming, we're looking to forward progress with each one! Best regards, -Jim Wilt
Thank you all for this great discussion on the dangers and virtues of releasing beta on beta operating systems. This, however, is not germane to my original question: What features should we expect if/when this occurs? Is there a target for getting your beta out? Possible answers to my question might look like: a) Possible features we hope to release that take advantage of Vista's ... are ... b) What features, as a WB customer, are you looking for in Vista?
Stardock has publically announced you are in good standing with your choice: Stardock Launches Object Desktop 2007 with Vista in Mind From this article: Stardock chose late Summer 2006 for the release of Object Desktop 2007 because of the impending release of Windows Vista. Users who purchase Object Desktop 2007 automatically receive a one-year subscription to ObjectDesktop.net which provides free updates and
Just curious. What features should we expect if/when this occurs? Is there a target for getting your beta out? Maybe you've already made an announcement and I've missed it. Sorry if this is the case.
My video is the Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family Performance of WindowFX is simply Supurb!
I'm running Vista Beta 2 on my Tablet PC w/o Aero as my graphics card is not yet supported. My moving motivation was to get a transparent TIP. Shadows, Animations, Window Dragging, Application Transparency, and Transparency Effects all seem to function at a high level of stability. Tabtip.exe, however, does crash regularly, but I cannot as of yet attribute it to Window FX.
Hi, I'm using WB5 (beta) on a tablet PC with Windows XP Tablet edition and I notice several behaviors: (1) The Tablet Input Panel (TIP) is not skinned. (2) When changing skins, the TIP process often goes into a CPU runaway where it locks up 98% CPU. (3) TIP performance, overall, appears to be diminished. I'm pretty much using WB as-is out of the "box," so are there any settings I should use to make it more TIP friendly?<
