Hello boys and girls, here's sending you DVR dreams and iPodelicious wishes. Finding the life electronic overwhelming? I'm thinking of starting a neo-Luddite movement. That's right, down with technology! So first steps first, let me put it out on my blog, tweet my friends, and oh yeah, gotta facebook that sucker....damn. When was the last time you turned it all off? Tried living without the boob tube for a week? Put down, GASP!!!! the cell phone?! Clearly, as I'm blogging this, I may
Do you think we need to maintain a permanent prescence in Iraq?
Permanent no. Dear God, don't do that to our troops. It's hot as f**k over there. But as it is now, the government is largely run by the Shia insurgency and isn't just in bed with Iran, they're all the way into the ball gags and bondage stage. This is no secret. It's been reported in the news time and again. Not permanent, but six years to build a nation from scratch seems a little bit short,

I was listening to NPR this morning, and I once again heard the inevitable discussion of the withdrawal of combat troops in Iraq. Surprisingly enough (did you know that sarcasm comes from the greek, sarkasmos, the biting of ones lips in anger?) the interviewer suggested that the best we could do in the war was to withdraw our troops with a modicum of dignity. However, having listened to a former Great talk about "peace with honor", (and no, really, he is not a crook!), I kno

So, here's a weird bit. My kid's almost three months now, and a little fussy (he's got four teeth coming in). So guess what puts him out. Mozart? Brahms lullaby? Paris Hilton's career? Nah-ah. This one's metal. I don't know if I listened to too much while he was in the womb, or what, but when I can't

And on that note....Why not open with a joke, after all, it's been awhile... This guy goes to see his doc for his over forty physical. He does all the usual tests, bloodwork, bends over, turns his head and coughs etc, and his doctor tells him to come back in two weeks. Two weeks go by and when he comes in, his doc tells him "I've got good news, and bad news." The guy looks at him and says, Well, what's the good news?" "The good news is, your cock's about to get two inches long
It takes a REAL man to sit at the bar and knit, he's more man than you'll ever be
Well, yeah. My point exactly. Also, you got any good sweater patterns? I've been hunting around for a decent men's raglan, and all I can find lately is a bunch of crap that either only looks good on a gay male model or was transported straight out of a 50s sitcom. Oh yeah, and one on a wiccan site I hit while google whacking, that almost looked decent, but had runes knitted into

Would have loved to treat you to dinner, but I'm in Huntsville, 'bama now.....less homeless, but they've got the frickin' rats here too.

Not many I started with left, but....if any of you are still lurking around the edges and you're wondering, I'm out of the Army now and living in Bama........sigh. Yeah, I know. Don't ask. Been busy, got out of the Army, moved across the country into a house that was completely trashed. Neglectful tenants plus owners that had watched too many flip your house type shows equals nightmare. Been busy moving, then drywall, electric, plumbing, snaking out sewer lines, paint, taking up carpe

The more I look at the complexity of the modern world, the more amazing I find that things hold together as much as they do. To me, it is not so surprising that the world economy could take a "sudden turn", and through a series of foolish choices, and lack of oversight take a serious fall into the shitter, but that it does not occur more often, and with greater consequence. My vision of a post-apocalyptic world is not so much a nuclear holocaust, or devestation wreaked by po

Ha!!! I know, it should be a Friday Five, but I work for the government (we're here to help...) and I get a four day. w00t. This week it's favorite bumper stickers, I laughed on the way home from one that read "Obey Gravity. It''s the law." Another favorite from the nineties was Pray for Clinton, Psalm 109:8." (May his days be short and another man take his office, to save you the trouble of looking it up.) This really isn't five. hmm. Well, feel free to put up

Short and easy one before beddie bye... Did you know the Catholic Church once issued a bull declaring the hippopotamus a fish? Good call guys, right up there with the whole martyrdom of Galileo bit. Apparently, the Portugese colonies in Africa, (a steady stream of income for the Vatican, despite their failure to bribe the Borgia popish wonder properly, which meant they only got Brazil in the split of the New World. Really, I always picture a Who's on First dialo
The knitting is going well. I finished the sweater and am now doing some baby booties for folks expecting babies in December. How goes yours?
Slow. Still working on my illusion scarf, and about a quarter of the way through the first girl. My fault for going too complex.

So, to your shock and amazement, I haven't been lighting up ye ole' Information Superhighway since I've been back. I'm sure my one remaining reader has noticed. Why? My life has been one nasty ass tangled up ball of twine. My first impressions when I came back were largely about how cold and green everything was here, how good the food was, and how fat all the Americans looked. Now? I'm irritated a lot. Really irritated. Everything used to wash over me pre

Theoretically, I agree with you. However, Sharia courts have a tendency towards extremism that is dangerous in the least. (I may be somewhat biased though by being in countries where Sharia courts were allowed to cut off fingers for smoking and undertake other similar practices. Sometimes they were practiced legally, other times, the law just gave a nod and a wink.) Their methods of ensuring mutual agreement, even in western countries are often strict beyond belief

Hi. I'm one of the armed forces ya'll keep mucking on about. To clear up a few matters - The wars that weren't a mess? Grenada, The War of the Roses (take my roses will ya, you bastard???), and the War of Jenkin's Ear. (extra points if you know that one without looking it up. Two - The surge went pretty damned good. We kicked ass and took names. (actually, other people kicked ass, but I told them where to, why? Because I took names. And addresses.......) Whether it gets misman

For those of you who have not noticed, the world is a strange place, and many of the true tales are weirder than any movie. So, since I'm a geek, and a slight history buff, I'm pleased to introduce the first episode of Candy from strangers. Wierd little bits and pieces I've picked up here and there that are cool enough to read in a short blip, but boring and annoying in a real life story. And most importantly, since I read a lot, visit museums, etc, but don't have the patience to chro
