WB5 Program Incompatible List

from Stardock Forums

Since WB5 is still beta, it seems to have lots of compatibility issues with some of the programs out there.


I would like everyone to post programs that have problems when WB5 is loaded. Please list incompatible issues only if you have tested the program once with WB5 loaded and WB5 unloaded.


My list:
Fable: The Lost Chapters
- Will load game half way then boot back to desktop
Black or unfilled status bars
- pretty sure everyone have seen this, where the bar doesnt layer properly and it just shows a black status bar.
In WB console. The Windows XP and Classic Style has no options in its window. (such as install skin from disk, edit, change skin color, delete, nor apply)
For some reason for only the XP and Classic style the option window is blank. Is this on purpose?

So far I am forced to unload WB5 to run those. It's sad.

So far I am forced to unload WB5 to run those. It's sad.

Have you tried simply excluding them from WB?

Pocomail - Exclude. Certain checkboxes do not show and text on menus is often unreadable.

FotoSlate 4 (From ACD Systems) - Exclude. Template selection boxes show what appear to be Greek characters instead of the intended icons. When I wrote the developer with a screenshot, he immediately wrote back and said I must exclude it from WB - so he must have already encountered it.

WindowsFX - Current beta cannot be running with WB5 beta running. (Instruction from Mike).

That's all that I've come across that I can prove by running with/without WB5 beta running.

Microsoft Works word processor doesn't play well with windowblinds at all.

J-Mac: Which menus in Pocomail?  I tried installing it and all the menus looked fine here.  Could you provide a screenshot?

Also with FotoSlate 4, where are the template selection boxes as again I am unable to reproduce any problems with them.

Some elements in OpenOffice 2 causes flickering. For instance the dropdown boxes in the toolbars, and some of the scrollbar elements.

The OpenOffice2 flickering issue should be resolved in the next build.

Night Train: What happens with works word processor?


It just closes instantly. It flashes and is gone. After excluding it , everything works fine. It has been an issue since build 4.0 or so. I just thought I would mention it here in case it is connected to anything.

Scan with NAV 2006 still shows a solid black status bar in .003

Night Train, please install and run SmartException from http://storage.stardock.com/files/smartexception.exe. We've not been able to get it to crash here launching the Word portion.

If you get \program files\stardock\smartexception\*.cra and *.dmp files created, please send those to kwilas@stardock.com.

Sorry this is late, Neil, but without any notification of replies I never know which posts to backcheck!

In Pocomail, the menu bar across the top is dark text on dark background, and the drop-down menus from the menubar are also dark on dark - or sometimes the opposite, light on light - depending on the skin used. Either way, I can never get Pocomail menus all OK.

Also with FotoSlate 4, where are the template selection boxes as again I am unable to reproduce any problems with them.


In FotoSlate 4, in the Page Designer, the buttons at the left of the larger window (where you drag the photos to) have icons on them and text beneath them. Believe it or not, the text on mine, from installation on, were greek characters! (I run it in English). Their support person readily recognized I had WB running and told me to exclude FotoSlate from it, and that did work.

BTW, I don't see anything here in SDC to allow me to attach a screen shot, or I would.

need to upload the shot to a hosting site (imageshack, photobucket, etc) then copy the http url generated there and paste it into the box when you click 'image' here.

Thanks Sir Bichur. That might help.

I hate to say this, but the discussion board within SDC is not a very user-friendly monster! Extremely slow, and the navigation is, well, not as good as most. (I'm being nice!)

Is there any other way to view the posts here? Something a bit more robust? The usenet groups are great, but they do not include these posts. Even an Invision or phpBB board would be much better, IMO.

sorry for the cross post, I found this thread after I started a new one.

Yes, No search of the forums, and no integration with the mail list sucks.

Corel Photopaint 9 won't run skinned. but will run if WB ignores it.
Corel Draw 9 will not run atall, if WB5 is active.

Any hints?

BTW, Copernic Pro has Black on Black in the side panel.
this, with any of about 12 recent skins loaded.

ACDSee 3.0 ....hasn't worked with WB since about WB3....no drama though....and it's pretty ancient...[about '99/2000]...

On Transparent skins , the game from Skunk Studios , Gutterball 3D , When in Full Screen mode , the taskbar is visible on the bottom

Excluding the app fixes the problem
