Iconpackager renders a game unplayable

This is quite the dilemma....first of all, I love iconpackager 3.0 and the cool new icons.  But after I installled it and applied my favorite icon (hazard), I couldnt play my favorite game(counter strike source).  Immediately after installation and rebooting, I click to start my game and it says,"THIS GAME IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE".

So then I uninstall and the game works again.  I reintalled iconpackager and the game doesnt work AGAIN.  So obviously my conclusion is that there is a software conflict somewhere, but where???

I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can lend me as these two titles are two of the most important softwares on my pc.  PLEASE help.  Thanks

Do you use a shortcut Icon to start your game? (as opposed to tossing a disc into the cd-rom drive)

I have a theory, but I need a little information...

Are you on XP?  Is your user ID a member of the Administrators group?

This will sound weird, but try to run Event Viewer and clear an event log... Then try to use device manager... If you try to do something like that, what happens?  Does everything work normally?

Thanks for the response.  To answer your questions:

1) yes I am using a shortcut icon to start the game.  No disc is needed to play.

2)  I am on windows xp.  If I understand correctly I am not a member of admin group.

3)  Event viewer and device manager does work but the other application that i fond out does not work is microsoft help and support.

4) All other games and apps work to the best of my knowledge.  It just so happens to be CSS that acts weird with the installation of iconpackager.  I am 100% certain that there is a direct correlation between CSS not working and the installation of Iconpackager.

I hope I've provided you with enough information to help me.  thanks

Well, if your Event viewer is working, it's not the problem I was thinking of.

I've seen the installation of Icon Packager 3 (on XPsp2) permanently remove administrative priviledges from a userid, even if that user is in the Administrators group; this causes Event Viewer and Device Manager to report errors when they're run, and causes some games to stop functioning.  The only way I've found to fix that problem is System Restore.  If you can fix your problem simply by downgrading Icon Packager, you're lucky.

Sorry I can't tell you more...
