i need a little help in making a website......

ok....i have a school project to do and its kind of like a compitition. Because the better your website is...the higher your grade.

And i want to know the basics of making one.

can somebody help me out around here.....you know find articles, information about scripts...etc

what software to use.....you know what i mean.

and since saying please is a magic word......PLEASE!!??

I'm trying to make a website myself, from scratch, so to speak. There is a lot of stuff out there. Right now, I am trying to do it through Microsoft Frontpage, since it's what I already have on my PC. You can use Photoshop and/or Image Ready also to design a Template. There are some good tutorials for templates and even free ones you can download.

I haven't had a lot of luck with scripts and am still pretty new to this, all I have so far is my index page and I don't know if I like it or not. Let me know how you make out. Would love to see the finished product.

What software do you use?
Notepad. :o) FrontPage Express is a l33t free program.... Really simple. http://sssd.k12.ar.us/departments/dts/training/fp.htm

if you have photoshop get a .psd web template.
it may be cheating but i do it all the time.

Front Page doesn't suck, but Dreamweaver is the way to go. Also helps if you just learn the code, using notepad can save a lot of time

From what I've seen and heard Frontpage makes your coding terrible if you don't watch out. Dreamweaver produces more cleaner coding, so faster loading... My experience is that Frontpage is easier to work with, because I started out with that program. The only downside of Frontpage is that it can't handle PHP...

Photoshop for images is perfect, I know you can design a whole website in it and slice it and than build it in your html-editor but I have no experience with that so far... Does your school assignment asks for a basic HTML site or does it need to contain scripts??

well.....i'm not trying to make a website like this......(if i can that would be great) i'm trying to make a website that can actually work like a forum. Like wincustomize, once you post a forum, its right there. but in Front page, it says that you have to pay for that. is that true?

Dreamweaver is the way to go


i used Dreamweaver in 7th grade......i was actually a bad boy back then so i didn't really pay attention. so it was hard for me to make a website. so i cheated. i used frontpage and then putted it on dreamweaver....well i didn't know how to do that back then and i let on of my uncles do it. i got a 95....

other than that....it is cool

You mean when you comment in a forum that the comment you made will immediatly show up? As far as I know you need a phpscript for that, I think it's too comlicated to make it yourself unless you have scripting skills? Looking at phpBB its a lot of coding even if you let out all the extra unwanted functions.. lol...

I have been working with websites for 8 years and even had proff. jobs doing it sometimes. i can tell you if u need to make a forum or something like that i wouldnt recommend Frontpage because of its way to code in but Dreamweaver is a lot better at the coding... if you just need to design and get the main visuals for your site, you can use frontpage. if u need a forum and doesnt know anything about serverside coding you have 2 options... to find a freeware site where you can download it free or a site to buy it from... before finding a forum you either can buy or download for free from, you need to find a place where you can have your forum and its important because you need to know what a coding language you need the forum in. Linux got the php and cgi and windows got asp, cgi and sometimes php. I dont think you need to choose the language on the background of what it is able to do because they prob are just as good. think you can make everything in both language anyway and i have no idea why some ppl think asp is better than php and the other way around. there is a freeware php foum availeble called phpnuuk and you would prob be able to google your way to it. but anyway... happy hunting or coding depends what you find out

Well... as long you dont need to make any coding in it then its fine... you can make the ordinary coding in notepad and make the design in frontpage... a solution too

I was just thinking the same thing NT. Don't show them how or supply tools they need, just do it. Good thing is not a project for Chemistry.

Your teacher should be teaching you the basics.
Take this site as an example, creating and maintaining a web site requires knowledge of many things. We all at times see how things can go wrong.
If they are not giving you the basics at school to do this project then IMO the teachers are not doing their job.

I'm willing to bet it's not a competition per se. It's part of an assignment for a class. Sounds like Bash is looking for someone to help him do his homework.
