Object Desktop Renewal?

Let me see if I have this right? WC will force a 30 day wait on an OD subscriber unless you are also a WC plat subscriber for new skins (that WC didnt make) to try to encourage people to Sub to WC?

That about right?

Having read through the planned changes for WC I'm now torn about my Object Desktop Renewal..

From Brad's original post:

"Subscriber-Only Skins. When a user who has Master access or higher submits a skin, a checkbox will appear that will indicate whether it is only available for subscribers or not. If checked, the skin is only available for subscribers for 30 days after its original create date"

Seems clear enough to me. The creator of the skin, if the have "Master Apprentice" level access or higher can, at their discretion, choose to restrict new skins to subscribers for the first 30 days.

So, that would be the Skinner (who did make the skin) making that decision, not WC (who didn't make the skin), huh?

That is the way it reads to me, Bichur.

I think that is the key that many seem to be missing:

It isn't a choice Stardock (or Wincustomize) is forcing on users. It will be something the skin author decides at their own discretion. That is to say, their skin, their rules.

I like it, gives subscribers a chance to get a hold and give comment as to what might make it a better skin, etc, before supplying it to the "general population".

Mulcifer,

Do you understand the reasons behind giving subscribers distinct advantages for supporting the site by helping with the cost of running it?

Do you think it unfair for a skinner to value his/her hard work enough to require compensation in some way.

For the skinner, it is a way to help the community survive, as well as supporting the possibility that someday down the road - if things turn around here at WC - skinners may receive monetary compensation for their work.
