Okay this time i'm really pissed! I've been working on a series of space scenes for some days now, almost a month. I've spent days working on them all! I've put enough effort,time and thinking in all of them. I've even read tutorials to achieve a bit of realism. Endless Bryuce renders in high quality, hours in Photoshop brushing up and mixing, photos edited to be included, even waited in the rain to achieve a photo of the sun rising through clouds for a better nebula effect! And all that just go down the drain!!! All have been rejected! All? Not all...just the good ones!!! Sincerely i just can't figure out how they choose one wall is ok and another isn't! The prequel of the prequel got accepted and that was just the easy first Bryce render with no post-processing!!! Just check the links below...you might understand why i'm really pissed! I know i ain't Greg Martin, nor do i have the ambition to become one. I've even sent the last wall (Ultima Terra) to A_67 for advice and he told me it was good for upload, just to remove the little text, which i did!!! Yet it was still rejected!

Hey Cyberworld,

I think a couple amongst the rejects I liked and the one that got approved I hate. That's just my taste though. Yeah, there's a hard board of judges around here for Wallpapers. I've submitted a few myself and haven't gotten any approved. I really wouldn't mind knowing who actually does approval for them.. Lol. They must be even more uptight than I am. No offense.

Anyways, Cyberworld I feel your pain. At least you've had 1 approval.

I can see how the ones with the big blinding white spot right in the center could be rejected. When moderating wallpapers at Skinartistry, blinding white spots is one of the things everyone frowns upon as far as a wallpaper. Sorry you feel you have been wronged. Don't pull a Night Train whining and threatening to leave. You will eventually regret it.

Hey cyberworld.. don't give up man, i think most have the same problem as you are haveing with this particular series you are doing, i certainly believe some of my best work has been rejected and could never figure why, especially after seeing some of the work that went up the same time i submitted..

Just my personal opinion for what it's worth: after reading the guide lines for walls and putting myself in their position, Mysteria III and Ultima Terra i would consider busy although they are great peices of work, Ultima Terra Prequel i would have put up with an outstanding rating..

Anyway great pieces of work showing great talent and Ultima Terra Prequel i would certainly resubmit without hesitation, this is an age old discusion that i don't think will ever change and i won't let it bother me

Hi Cyberworld,

I think they're all good examples of Computer art, but whether they would work as wallpapers i'm not sure. Now, i have no idea what the moderators of Wincustomize are looking for when people upload to the site but i think that one of the pre-requisites is that i must work on the desktop. I.E not distract from your work.

I personally wouldn't use them as desktops for exactly that reason. (sorry)

I have read a couple of times here that "space" walls are more difficult to get accepted than other types. Maybe not as difficult as dolphins, but right up there. I like them, CW. Out of curiosity, why didn't you upload them as a package?

I think that if you were trying to post them as wallpapers......they won't except them unless its something rare.

As for other skins like bootskins or log-on.....its easier.....sorry they didn't except them Cyber.

I think i'll just turn to skinning... DX is now of my taste and bootskins too. Initial shock is now over,but i think i'll just stop posting walls. They are time taking and most of them are rejected... The time of creation is not by far equivelent to the rejection ratio, which is about 1/5 i think...

Don't pull a Night Train whining and threatening to leave.


I don't threat i'll leave. I'll stay,just turn to other apps. I'd never leave this site,cause i like it here. I'm just fed up with an aspect of it. If i'd leave i wouldn't make a scene. Not my style...

why didn't you upload them as a package?


Cause then they'd take up alot of space,which would be a killer for dial-up users. There are totally 12-13 walls, all 1600x1200.

It's a comet! At least that is what it is supposed to be...you didn't understand it? It took days to achieve a proper impact effect...

I've uploaded random Bryce renders and got accepted...which didn't have anything rare on them...and a techy wall with a big orb in the middle is nothing rare to be found, but i see them getting upload by dozens! The rarest form of walls you can find here in WC is Noir Arts and Photoshop Blends.

I think it's me who has the reputation of being the harsh space-wall/image critic....ask BoXXi....

In life drawing the bravest aspiring artist will turn to mush at the prospect of drawing the human hand.  It's famously difficult to get 'right'.

In 'digital' imaging, aka Photoshop, Bryce, et al, the equivalent is the 'space' scene.  Precious few manage it well as an accomplished artform, irrespective of whether the section is for wallpapers or not.

Most often it's simply a loss of depth/perspective/scale....to succeed as a space image, and when considering suitability as a wallpaper rather than specific 'art' it often loses due to being overworked/busy and distracting as a desktop.

I've drawn 'professionally' since I was 17.....am now 51.....and I wouldn't dare attempt a space scene......still having nightmares about those hands.....

This type of "art" I have seen. Although they look cool, they do not look like the heavens viewed at night nor photographs taken from space. They are surreal, fantasy laden, and take about 10 minutes to do for one who is accomplished. I'm sure yours are better, mrdarb. I can only go by what I have seen.

Naw, you're right Sleeping Dragon, as is Jafo, I stand corrected. Space scenes are incredibly hard to get right, even with a real airbrush. And even the best are still a poor imitation of the real thing. Cyberworld is really up against it taking on space scenes.

You shouldn't quit making walls just because they got rejected. Enjoy the process, the only opinion that matters is your own. If you hold your work to a high standard, then it is just that. Also, I had to edit your post to make the title more 'user friendly'. Kids view this site, so the profanity had to go.

Wow, I really do like those images actually.

I'm not sure I disagree with the moderators in terms of *wallpaper* but as images, they're pretty awesome (I think).  Might have to talk to you on GalCiv stuff in a few weeks as we may need some stuff like this.

I Liked the first one a lot. On the others, the planet seems to get "lost in space" so to speak. but not bad. One the others with the meteor strike, if you could get and better splash effect with chunks of planet flying away rather than just a white spot it would look very cool. The white spot kind of detracts from the rest.

Cyberworld, the thing that I have noticed about you is that you can do so many things. You are diverse enough to do all of them and still submit walls. I envy your diversity. If you want a good gauge on how well your walls do, post on Deviant Art. You will be able to see if an 'immediately available to the public' wall gets 30 downloads or 3,000. I don't change boots all that often, so I hope you will still make your walls available to me by e-mail if I ask. Everybody gets frustrated at times. But I would ask that you don't stop uploading walls. Please.
