Right Click Losing Its Submenus

In looking at the all of the previous Right Click posts ("Right Click changes itself?" -13 days old, "My Right Click is kaput!" - 85 days old), I find it frustrating that we have not seen an update from Stardock with a fix to the submenu issue that was reported months ago. It would seem that someone there could get this problem resolved (in a more timely manner) based on the number of folks who have reported the issue and the others who have obviously too and recommended various workarounds.

The only solutions that have been recommended were by fellow subscribers for you to make back-up copies of your RightClick.ini and .obbar files for when if and when it happens to you (and it will and does!). The other solution I find almost comical and I will try to rephrase "do not close down RightClick at reboot or shutdown and keep it active at all times". Never shut it down!...ok

I wish the lead developer for RightClick would jump in and take a look at this issue and see if we can't get it resolved. A few weeks back, a few of us had a problem with an update of Stardock Virtual Desktops (the infamous '3 desktops only' problem) that was noted by many and someone there at Stardock was able to send out a registry tweak and then later an update to fix it for us (thanks!).

I hope the RightClick developer hasn't been reassigned to concentrate on WindowBlinds 5! It may be awhile before we hear anything. I know WindowBlinds is somewhat of a bell cow at Stardock and garners a lot of attention, but is more of an eye candy application than a 'tool' like RightClick has become to me (I've got the WB5 beta installed and my desktop looks beautiful but that's it).

There was a lot of pub on StarDock.net when RightClick came out on its own rather than an option within Object Bar. I was pleased about that and installed it right away and soon came to depend on it here at work. RightClick coupled with Stardock Virtual Desktops really enhances my productivity, or so I tell people . It speeds up access to all of my fav used apps and shortcuts and reduces a lot of the clutter that XP has built in as far as quick access goes.

So, come on people and take a few minutes from WB5 beta fixes and enhancements and take a look at our Right Click issues. Who knows, maybe you could throw in a "Save" option so that people could create multiple Right Click menus and choose them based on needs...Hmmm, not a bad idea.

Hi Craig,

Well there's good news. I had been fighting with the "losing items" issue with RightClick for some time, but just yesturday I found a source of the problem and was able to repair it! I'm expecting that that was the only source, and thus we'll see the end of this very troubling problem. The submenu issue is still being looked in to, we're going to give it some more shots before releasing a build with that former fix.

As for Saving/Loading in RightClick, we're ARE going to be looking to do it in a future release, but RC is behind ObjectBar in the queue right now which needs continued attention moving to v2.0, so we're not putting it in the "up and coming promised features" lists at this point.

Oh and btw, your welcome for the registry key patch Thanks to the boards I was able to find that Virtual Desktops issue very quickly.

Best Regards,
-Jeff

Thanks for your reply...

I can only speak for myself in saying that RightClick is at the top of my priority list and I hope Stardock is able to quickly patch these fixes to SDC and push through enhancements for the ability to save/load multiple RightClicks along with putting back into RightClick to load the Stardock Virtual Desktops.

Regards, Craig

You can speak for me too, "save" being the biggest item on my wishlist for any Stardock product.

I would like to see OB outstrip the "Desktop Sidebar" program. The current library is limited to Mac clones which do not interest me. The custom menu was always the draw for me and since RightClick came out I haven't had much use for it.

Next biggest wishlist item would be widgets in Object Dock.......

Me too. I can't right click on top of program and get right click to pop up, only start menu. I have asked but no response, no help.

What I did to "correct" this was to set up RightClick how I wanted it to look and then copy the entire directory tree to a different folder.

Now, once the configuration goes to pot, I run a script that robocopies all the files over using the /MIR option to mirror the destiantion to the source.

I also created a script that reverses the process so that if I change some settings, I can quickly copy everything overf to the backup folder.

It's not pretty, but it's the way I can think until the program is updated or patched.

Last RightClick update 08/15/2005...It could be worse...You could be an Object Sweeper fan waiting for an update (last update for that 3/18/2004).

I also found my RC menu and all submenus disappearing after I'd unloaded the program, and I also did some backup'ing of the whole RightClick folder - Step by step. I kept on loosing my menus, but recognised that what I'always had left was a 'half' menu always with the MFU list in the buttom!!!

I just removed it from my menu ... and Hocus Pocus - no more problems

Now I think I've tried all other items in my menus ... and submenus - all is working

My idea is that maybe it has something to do with the MFU list constantly is changing, and so in some way or another is f... RC up - could it be?

Years later, and this problem persists.

I decided recently to try RightClick, and it keeps corrupting my config. I've tried running it as administrator, etc, but it loses some of its submenus and actually recreates some of the default entries over and over.

(Sir)Lotherius you would probably do better in starting a new post. If you do include what OS your using. Have you download the latest Right Click update? Are you trying to use Right Click on an open full screen window? I understand that does give Right Click some problems. No problems though if you use it on the desktop. I've just started using Right Click with no problems.

I agree that a "save" feature would be a great addition to all the Objective Desktop programs. I hope that's part of Objective Desktop 2008. I have copied my rightclick and object bar config files (although I'm not using ObjectBar much yet so there is actually no data in that file but I figured, what the heck.)so I hope that that is enough to back the files up. It "is" a bit of a pain to have to rebuild the right click menu at startup each day so I hope that a save function is implemented.

BUMP

What is happening with arguably on of the most day to day useful applications Stardock ever released?

It's advertized as a part of the Impulse subscription suit of applications and yet its support and development is sub par at best.

I have been a customer of Stardock for years and this to me at least is the most useful of all the apps and I can only repeat that it is advertized and charged for as a part of the Impulse subscription.

If it's being worked on or made to actually function without unaceptable fault in x86 and x64 based systems (the latter of which ie x64 based systems) is under common assertion and knowledge, becoming common place, then can we be made aware of it and given a accurate time of such?

Of course if it's not being worked on then can we arrange a compensation of some kind to offset the advertized and paid for application?
