What does the blue screen you're receiving say (Just the error message)?

When you hit F8 to load the boot selection menu and select "Safe Mode" what happens to prevent you from entering safe mode?

If you have a camera, can you take a picture of the error?
Have you installed SP2, there is a known issue with teh SP2 install and bootskin.
Are you sure your keyboard is plugged in? [I hate when my wife asks me such questions an is right.]

Sorry, I just noticed that F8 works, just not the arrows. Odd. Is the keyboard USB? You might have more luck with ps2.

pandorkero,

If you have the CD drive set to boot before the hard drive, you can do the following:

1 - Insert your XP installation disc in the CD drive, and reboot the computer.

2 - Watch the boot text carefully for the "Hit any key to boot from CD", and then hit "Enter".

3 - When you get to the Welcome To Setup screen, hit R to start the Recovery Console.

4 - Recovery console will load the Windows installations it sees on the disc.

5 - Select the number of the installation you want to work with, which will be #1 if you only have one Windows installation, and then hit "Enter" (note - you must enter a number, and not just hit enter - which will boot Windows normally and bypass the Recovery Console).

6 - At the C:\> command prompt, you can repair the boot.ini file by typing: bootcfg /rebuild  (this will automatically replace the existing Boot.ini file

7 - when complete, exit Recovery Console by typing exit - and then hit "Enter" to boot normally

If the above procedure fails, you can try a Windows repair, which "typically" does not adversely affect your current files and settings.

To perform a repair, do the following:

1 - Insert your XP installation disc in the CD drive, and reboot the computer.

2 - Watch the boot text carefully for the "Hit any key to boot from CD", and then hit "Enter".

3 - Hit "Enter" when prompted to start the Windows Setup program.

4 - Hit "F8" when prompted to accept the license agreement.

5 - When the screen displays your Windows installation, select it - and then hit "R" to start the repair process.

6 - Follow the prompts to complete the repair process.

7 - When completed, you should be able to access Windows again, with all your settings intact.

I hope this helps.
