Space battles

Space battles

A couple of days ago when i was just having a general thought about space strat games and there battle, And i was wondering how everyone imagines (or they think it be like) how space ships and a space battle would really be like and wonder wat game u think is the closest to this. for example ddi u always imagine it as a episode of startrek (someone some ships die with the smallest shot and others can take hundreds, and also y its always the portnassel plasma leaks from) or do u think it was more like something from the new Battlestar Galactics ( i wasnt a too big fan of his but had some great visuals) if anyone has any feelings or views please say so (y i created the thread)
i know this is the near the end of production so i dont expect anything to change (and i wasnt even creating this topic with that intention) but maybe stardock can get some good input for future titals

I could picture a module on a ship that would allow for emergency retreats. Overrides the Hyperdrive interdictor that ships have.

Well i still think morality should somehow influence war and society in some great way not sure how...
A module just to retreat seems stupid however mods can make it more effective but it would MUST MUST be small like a aux engine based on the current tech or somthing...

Agree. Of course, that was the intent of morality based colonization events, random events, and the morality based technologies. Not sure if more morality influenced aspects of the game would increase the fun factor or just make it more tedious. I guess that it just depends on the specific idea.

I was actually thinking that such emergency escape module should be fairly large and costly so that a decision between escapibility and other modules would be required where space is concerned. Now whether I would bother to build a module just to escape is another question. There might be some good uses.

i think havin a retreat option should not have any restriction on ur good or evil rating or have a moral penalty . in war you have to expect losses (a fundamental principle) the only real difference is how w much you lose, and i think a lost battle is beter then a lost war . Also i think retreating should just be a option for battle -perhaps a time limit instead, e.g you have to wat a certain amount of time in the battle before your ships can flee this then stops you picking a fight with a weaker ship but cant destroy it because it retreats to fast.
also i think having a retreat option adds more depth and option . such as if a fleet is about to attack a planet of yours and you cant destoy the fleet, but you are able to get enough ships to attack and destory certain ships with certain modules and quickly retreat
