Noob has a question about creating menus...

I was just introduced to DesktopX, and so far, I love it!!
The whole reason why I discovered the program was that I found a theme, the Thinking Tree theme, and I fell in love with it. After downloading the program and discovering what it could do, I instantly set out to make my own desktop with a similar concept as the Thinking Tree theme.
In that theme, there are text layers, that when you click on them, they bring up a menu specific to a certain group, such as MS Office, Games, Apps, and System. I'm trying to create the same type of thing working with both Desktop X and Photoshop CS. Is there a tutorial for menu creation out there, or does anyone have any tips?
Thanks!
