You have a couple of options:

1 = Use a graphics editing program to create an image, and then save or export the image as a ".png" file which supports transparency (transparency is required for icon images).

Any of the following popular programs can be used to create images with transparency:

- Corel PaintShop Pro 9
- Adobe Photoshop
- CorelDRAW 12

I believe there are free trial versions for each, which can be downloaded from their web sites.

There are many others as well, including some free ones - which you can turn up with a Google search.

2 = Use a program that allows you to create and save an image as an icon (".ico") file, and then either use the icon file as is, or export the file as a ".png" file

Icon Workshop is a good program that falls in option #2, and offers a 30 free trial, and includes some tutorials via the help menu for creating icons Link

You can find tutorials for making icons with CorelDRAW by Mormegil here at WC by going to his site under the Sites tab at top of page.

or if you only have simple tools like paint: create in paint, pick a background color not in you icon (i use the magic pink - Red 255 Green 0 Blue 255 - paint will save as a .png. Open that png in Irfanview (it's free link]http://irfanview.com/">Link), save as png again in Irfanview (new name) a box will pop up, check save transparent color, you will get a chance to click the color to be transparent, click the pink and it goes transparent.

..you may have also chosen an offensive nick

it's probably a wise idea to change it to something else, if you'd like people to help you out ...or if you'd like to have/keep any "credibility" here.

My thoughts exactly....
