DesktopX & IE scripting issues

Hello everybody,

I want to ask all "oldies," i mean people who actually knows about desktopx and such.
I have not had issues with any installations of any wincustomize software.

The problem is that my IE 6.0 now does not work with some websites scripting.
I have re-installed java, vbscript, ms virtual machine, registrered vbscript.dll and jscript.dll. Nothing helped.

One of the websites is www.gmail.com - my main e-mail!

Computer (do not know why you will need this):
Centrino 1.6 GHz
1.00 GB
100 GB
Win XP Pro SP2

The firewall. anti-virus, spyware protection are NOT a problem, everything worked before
installing desktopx and other software from www.wincustomize.com

The most upsetting part is that desktopx is the reason i had to restore last time.
I will not restore again! I have too much to restore. I will not use other browser than IE!

Restore or using other browser is not a fix, it is a answer for a slackers.
I would like to fix the problem, and nothing is helpful so far.

Thank you.

So scripts work for some websites, but some not? Completely or parly?
Have you checked if your security settings in IE has changed?

Hello milovanov,

I just finished troubleshooting some problems with IE 6.0 that were at least in part caused by some updates during the past several months. Like you I wanted to find the cause. Besides finding that several Stardock programs interfering with IE, with a lot of help from MS MVP Ramesh Srinivasan on another forum I found a missing iexplore.exe HKEY – among OTHER things.

One of the symptoms I found that you did not mention is problems with other programs that need IE to function. Start>Help and Support, Photoshop Elements 2 and QuickBooks refused to open for me, although they functioned fine in Safe Mode. For several months I had a big problem with jscript until 7-4, when my underlying problem caused my system to stop recognizing the version of IE that was installed. Up until that date I had to periodically reregister jscript. Start>Run>regsvr32 jscript.dll and Start>Run>regsvr32 vbscript.dll. After 7-4, IE stablized and there were no more problems with jscript. However, several programs I use - the ones mentioned above - stopped working. The system analyizer, HijackThis, could not find which version of IE was installed.

I just logged on this morning to begin to report my findings. One of the two links should get you to the now 2 page posting. Link

HijackThis was a useful utility to examine my system and it is available at the aumha.net site, among others. I follow the instructions at http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ie/qbooks.htm which Ramesh found for me to restore the HKEY file.

If you need more troubleshooting with IE, I’d suggest that you work with Ramesh at aumha.net.

Good luck

cann't you guys tell that i am not stupid?
I do not need "computer for dummies"

I already used all registering for all kinds of scripts.
And there are no problems with security settings.
And hijack this shows everything is perfect.
No registry keys are missing.
No other programs has problems.

And i would appriciate if nobody will try to redirect me to other forums.
The issue is with desktopX and people who built it should be responsible.

Thank you.

I HAVE FOUND THE REAL FIX!!!

Microsoft has a diagnostic tool for microsoft vm!

Thanks for nothing guys!

The software problem here with your computer and mine is more complicated than just messing with jscript. I ran the diagnostic tool for Microsoft VM on 6-19 and found nothing significant which would help me. I had and still have no problem with DesktopX. I am having a problem with WindowBlinds interfering with Photoshop Elements 2 though. IconPackager has a known and fixable problem (which also was screwing up my other programs). I now know Enhanced Dialog causes problems too. The commonality with all affected programs is HTML in my case.

I also run NIS 2005 which reportedly causes jscript problems. That did not happen to me, but I had to investigate all possible causes. I lost my HKEY at a time when the biggest computer change was updating Stardock stuff and computer housecleaning to aid in diagnosising my IE problem. Strangely my jscript problems disappeared after I lost the HKEY.

The link to my troubleshooting steps is not for one person. It may or may not be useful for one person who only give lists vague symptoms. My link, and the steps I needed to work through can be used by everybody who has a problem that also run Stardock software and use this forum for help. So sometimes simple basic answers are offered when inquiries only give vague and general symptoms. Several very nice people have helped me the two times I have posted in the last few days.

I think the source of our problem is the same one though. It is just expressed differently because our systems and the collection of potentially conflicting software we use are different. Sending Stardock a user.dmp file from Dr Watson is more constructive than a short, angry posting.

Ok, the problem is BACK!

The issues are the same.
I have uninstalled everything i got from stardock.
I have removed every single entry from registry and every folder.
The cryptographic fixes were done.
Firewall was uninstalled.
Scripts were reinstalled.

The issue is still there.

Please help.
